Re: at what age should you stop showing tummy in your fashion?

This thread is a bit awkward. The OP believes it's ok to show abs and is asking what age is too old that it is "yukky". Like most others here, I don't think it is proper to show off the midriff at any age- besides at the gym and on the beach. On the other hand, women in India wear saris at every age that shows the midriff and it is not yukky at all. I think we should stop pointing at our body parts and judging if they are old, saggy, toned, tanned or yukky. Look at yourself and others as a whole person.

I plan on wearing belly shirts until they put me in the grave!

It may put others in the grave first!

Of course that would be from them being stunned at your fabulous beauty and toned abs.

I think we should keep the old, the saggy, the yukky and the scary covered up for the good of others around us.

If it's deliberate, never.

If 'accidental on purpose' ... i.e. you can't see it unless you move a certain way and you know it ... then maybe 30.

In Hollywood it appears they have different rules than most of what is written here. Last time I showed my tummy was in the 80's when tube tops were a hot fashion.....what WAS I thinking?

Besides in a bikini at the beach, I don't think it is ever ok. That is my personal opinion.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Now, ignoring my personal preference not to see ANYONE's belly, I don't think there is a definite age. I think it would be more by your physical shape. If your abs are not flat and toned and there is any belly flab at all, the look is not a good one, regardless of age or gender (I don't want to see big guy bellies either). Regardless of physical shape though, I think it looks ridiculous for someone of a "certain age" to show their belly...even on the beach. I am 47 and would never wear a bikini now even if I had awesome abs...don't think it goes with my varicose veins and the start of my wrinkles...lol!

Of course, my opinion on the whole belly showing thing was totally different when I was 20 and had flat abs and wore cropped tops and mini skirts. I will never admit that to my daughter though...I am hoping she will stay more covered up than mom did. Wink

About 18 months old seems about right - but definitely not later than 2nd birthday!

No, trust me it wouldn't be from that! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I remember the belly shirt craze. I believe this was the late 80's/early 90's. Yes I did wear it then along with my Final Net sprayed "mall hair." What a mess. {#emotions_dlg.blushing}

Amy1900, I just read your post. I think we were sporting the same ensembles at about the same time. We are also about the same age. We were hot! {#emotions_dlg.blink}

Re: at what age should you stop showing tummy in your fashion?

A question for those who will still show a tummy after kindergarten age--what kind of lifestyle do you have? What do you do for a living? I ask because I would think that you would need to present a professional image--or at least an image of being polished and with a bit of class--in most professions. I'll just do what I want doesn't really seem like an attitude that would allow a person to move too far along in most business settings--it's an attitude that exhibits a certain amount of arrogance--and yes, you can do what you want, but occasionally asking yourself if you should do it might be the way to go. It would not hurt a bit if a certain amount of class managed to squeeze itself back into society...and I can't say that wearing (or not wearing) whatever wherever is particularly classy!
