When I was in my twenties, I could wear anything and I did! Short shorts, leather skirts and pants, halter tops, platform shoes, high boots, miniskirts, leopard tights, etc., all looked great because I was slim and young. Youth allows one to check out the trends and experiment.
I could probably still "rock" some of those looks, but now that I am older I am much more traditional.
Also, my many career years meant I stocked up on silk blouses, dressy suits, and smart mid-heel shoes.
My favorite fashion is glamorous dress--long sparkly dresses, high heels, flashy jewelry, great make-up--but I reserve those fancy evenings for special events like New Year's Eve or cruise formal nights.
So many stores I loved to shop in are now gone forever, and I do not find the newer styles measure up to the creativity and exquisite construction of the past.
These days I trend more toward stylish "comfort," but I wlll never allow myself to look sloppy in public, which I see all too frequently in the styles of today.

My best style years were the 1980's. I loved the glam!
We really dressed up for occasions back then.
We even "dressed for success" at work then, and it was competitive in the big city where I lived. The 1980's might've been the closest to the 1920's & 1930's glam.

@San Antonio Gal You look gorgeous! You have great hair, too! so nice of you to share those photos. I have a corporate job, so I've always tended to dress more conservatively, too. I'm hoping my best style decade will be the coming decade (2020 - 2030). How is that for optimism? LOL

I used to shop at talbots all the time. I haven't found clothing I am really in love with from there in years. I am not sure what my personal style is now. I usually lean in the direction of conservative, classic pieces though.

Definitely before 2012--I was dx with breast cancer then--had mastectomies so no more "girls" for me as I opted not for recon surgery---has been a challenge finding tops that don't accentuate my flatness, has been mens tops these days---you have to think--without breasts, your stomach is more prominent even when it is flat---been very hard to figure out!!

My style is classic, and really hasn't changed that much over the years. I liked all my looks at the time I wore them so it's difficult to select one time in my life that I think was "best".
I definitely participated in the trends of the 70s and 80s. Those were fun times. Since then my look has been tailored classic separates. I'm still interested in trends, but I don't worry about not looking trendy. I just wear what I like. Since retiring my look is more casual, but still "put together".

Even though I haven't worn dresses in a few years or so, I love Drew Barrymore's dress today on Valentine's Day.
Long sleeves, longer length, with a tie.
This one has a background of dark midnight navy or black and has a sprinkling of red lips all over, which look like hearts from a distance.

The changes that Belk has gone through since the Belk brothers sold them to that company that prefers online mainly, have not been good.
I had noticed they put a few nice items around the escalator, and beyond that was major disappointment. Belks house brands often leave a lot to be desired.
The better lines are now mostly online, but you may return to the store.

For me it was the '80s when all of my friends and I would go to the mall and go crazy on fashions. You could find anything back then and it wasn't too expensive. I miss those days of spending entire days at the malls shopping for clothes! Lots of diversity back then.
