I mostly wore button down blouses and shirts with suited skirts and pants because I think I look better with a collar at neck. I have a hard time with pop over woven tops because I'm slim, but busty. Pop over woven tops that fit me thru the bust, typically have too much material at waist. I also prefer to tuck in blouses and shirts, so getting a slim fit is important to me.
Knit fabrics are way more forgiving and those I tend to wear untucked with skirts. If am wearing a knit top with a skirt I usually add a jacket so I can get that collar.

I also wore white cotton button down shirts with paisley cotton skirts. Talbots used to carry a lot of them @ECBG .
I haven't worn them in years as I wear more summer dresses now and if I do wear a skirt it is with a cotton tee
shirt....🌺
@Trinity11 Are you, by any chance, referring to a trumpet skirt? I had a couple of suits with that style skirt. I, also paired them with a silk button front blouse. That was years ago when I dressed for the position I aspired to. Glad those days are over.

i love the paisley skirt with a tailored shirt! it looks dressy yet fun.
many moons ago i loved to wear a Lacoste polo with a cotton skirt; i had summery plaid and tiny floral skirts and pretty pink and green polos.

In my world, there is never a bad time for a crisp white button down shirt. For a man or a woman!

@ECBG, this thread just gave me an idea. I have a very nice button-down white-ish shirt and have been struggling with what to wear with it. I'm now thinking about wearing it with my pink denim Giuliani Tulip skirt with a light pink cotton T layered underneath.

@LuvSoCal , if I remember correctly, I wore some skirts that had distinctive panels coming from the waist of the skirt. They gave the appearance of the skirt being flared but not a trumpet skirt. I also remember one particular suit I bought from Ralph Lauren. It was a copy of the gray suit that Kim Novak wore in "Vertigo."

I wear crisp white button downs with summery print skirts a lot. Maxi skirts and midi skirts. I roll the sleeves like we see here. I add a wide belt. I'm on vacation in the lake area of NH and it's cool at night. I bought 2 white button downs to wear over maxi dresses when we go to dinner.
