The fake raffia IHKWIP bags are not appealing to me. They look so phony and look like plastic. I have no desire to purchase any of them

Raffia and woven bags are trending again for this Summer. I have a older original Kate Spade straw tote bag and a beautiful Patricia Nash leather woven bag that I use during the Summer season. I would rather spend the extra $$$ for something that is made from real materials.

I have had a Nash raffia bag get horribly stained by the indigo dye in my clothing, and I have had a wicker bag get caught on things and tear, so I don't know what the answer is.  Leather, I guess, or a good sturdy nylon like D& B uses.

@Bookplate The Kate Spade straw tote that I have does have some broken straw in some places but it has a very strong sturdy base so it does not collapse. It is more fragile because of the nature of the straw so I am selective of when I use it.

The Nash leather woven bag that I have is very sturdy, it will last a life time.

I just ordered this one from Brighton, it isn't rafia, it's canvas. They have some really nice looking summer bags this year but I thought I would get this size-I'll get more use out of it.  They have them all on the Brighton website.

I already have a beautiful raffia bag made by Cole Haan that I love.

I am happy that raffia is trending again. IMO, Cole Haan makes some really high quality bags.

I am not interested in fake leather, fake raffia or plastic over priced bags.  I love good quality bags.

Does anyone remember the sitcom " The Golden Girls"? The character Sophia always carried a beautiful white wicker purse. It reminded me of the summer purses we had in the 60s. They were wicker with a sturdy duckcloth lining and the closure was a kisslock. The handles were leather. I would give my right arm to get one of those again! I had 6 that I can remember and I foolishly gave them up when the new trend, which I don't remember what it was, came along. 😢
