I think you have to consider the source. The OP knows the sort of woman she is and that is why she took it as sort of a snotty comment. The woman also did not say "I love your necklace. Did you make it?"

I love handicrafts and have taught and made all sorts of things, so I have an appreciation for people who do this as well as for unique one-of-a-kind jewelry.
