What has happened with the B. R. stores?

We lost the Bananna Republic store in our mall Christmas a year ago.  I went in the new Bananna Republic Outlet store in another location here today and you couldn't pay me to take anything!  The retail store had beautiful sweaters, jackets and coats (only wore their tops).

What happened?

Which of these stores do you have?

Re: What has happened with the B. R. stores?

I live in the Northern Va area.  We have lots of Banana Republic stores, outlets, you name it.

I was just at Potomac Mills (one of the biggest outlet malls in country (so I've heard)) and I went in there.

Normally my daughter finds lots of things to buy.  She found a few but spent most of her time in Ann Taylor outlet mall.

She's 35 but looks like she's maybe 20 years old.  She has a good figure and is one of those people (unfortunately, for me) who looks good in everything!  Ha!

I didn't notice any difference but to be honest by the time we got to that end of the freaking mall I felt like, "Just shoot me now and put me out of my misery".

I believe they are owned by the GAP and GAP is not doing all that well. I haven't been to my downtown mall in a long time so I don't know if the BR is still there.

I like shopping at The Limited and we lost that store from the downtown mall about 10 years ago.

When I was in my 30s I really liked shopping at Express. This store is still in the mall but the clothes are horrible; even if was now in my 30s I wouldn't buy anything there.

Re: What has happened with the B. R. stores?

I have the store in my area, but not sure for how long. I went in to do a little christmans shopping once this season. It was empty even though the mall was bustling with shoppers holding lots of bags. There was nothing of any interest to me, and the store didn't have that much inventory compared to previous seasons. In the past, there would be many lines at the three or four registers, and it would be fairly busy. Not this year. So OP, I agree with your observation in general. I also agree with the poster who mentioned the GAP's poor general financial state. I also went in there and was very disappointed with the selection, and it too was fairly empty. I haven't been into the Athleta store in my area so I can't comment on that holding. I wonder if they will survive, and if the whole group can be turned around.

The stock at BR outlet is mixed some junk and some nice

jeans are good, I got 2 nice sweaters in the fall.  Prices can be good if you go there when there is a big sale weekend and you have a  coupon.

I have found several items very recently from Banana Republic.  One was a sweater, one item was a necklace.  I don't buy a lot from BR, but I do own some jewelry and a few clothing items.

The outlet stores are a totally different matter.  I T A with you.  The items are just awful and made for the outlets.  They look like items from Rue 21.  ugh  I wouldn't take anything for free from there either.

I've heard they are going back to more business wear instead of the direction that they've been going.
