Re: What Happened To J. Crew?

J Crew and Banana Republic were my "go to" stores/sites. They used to offer what I consider wardrobe builders....basic pieces of high quality. Now like so many others, their designs are trying to to be trendy, less thought put into design and fabric and workmanship. I've purchased fairly expensive items from both stores last season only to find after 1 washing, holes, seams coming apart, etc.

This lack of quality and design IMO is happening across the board. For the most part, women do not have disposable income to spend on fashion. If garments are not made well, styles will not stand the test the of time for at least 3 seasons (like 3 summers), no purchase!

I'm a wardrobe builder....don't purchase on impulse and look for those quality pieces that I'll have for quite awhile. Yes, more money spent upfront, but not when you consider price per wear. When a pair of well fitting neutral pants are reached for several times a week, it's money well spent.

Re: What Happened To J. Crew?

I never was a J  Crew customer. They seemed pricey to me, with styles designed for skinny tall people.

I liked Banana Republic better, and still do. I occasionally buy something from them.

The quality issues are a problem across the retail spectrum. It's especially annoying when you've paid more upfront and expect the clothing to last.
