Years ago I was told I was a Spring and a Soft Autumn. Don't like jewel tones or bright colors. I like the colors I wear to be a bit saturated, not bright or jewel tones though. It's hard for me to explain. I like warmer tones too. My house is decorated in autumnal shades.

I'm a golden blonde haired gal, so, I thought I should stay away from yellow, then, somebody out of the blue said "you should wear more yellow looks good on U".
Go figure. Now, got few yellow tops.

Red, especially if it is true red, or a blue-red look terrible on me.
Purple if is is a cool or blue-based purple not good.
Black not good.
Have always been an autumn best in the colors of mud or leaves or any of the yucky colors you cool peope hate.
Got a pond-scum green? Bring it on, it looks good on me. Got a mustard yellow- I shine in this color. Got a bile green -bring it my way. Got a taupe- brings out my sunshine.

Years ago, I was told I was a Fall, another time a Spring. I'm really a Soft Autumn, I look best in muted fall colors, not as bright as Spring and not as dark as Fall. I find the website, dream-wardrobe dot com to be very helpful with colors. Amazon also carries seasonal color fans that are very helpful.
Anyway, my eyes are green-hazel, pond scum green, and my hair is dark blond/light brown. Jewel tones, bright pastels, lipstick red, bright orange, neon green, bubblegum pink, no, no, no. The more gray I get in my hair, the more I'm attracted to muted soft blues and greens. All the bright intense pinks shown on the Q are so pretty but would look hideous on me.

@pietook , there are tons and tons of books on color analysis, but a good one to start is David Zyla's "Color Your Style".
He's really built on the theories of earlier pioneers in the field, and, he's really entertaining to read!
I don't look good in black near my face-- it brings out every flaw and shadow. I'm pale, with the lightest brown hair, and muddy gray-blue eyes. Good colors for me are soft blue, lilac, soft green, blush, cream.
Even though I'm "cool" all the way, I don't look very good in greeny blues, like teal. I actually look better in certain light sages, which is weird. In most other ways, I seem to be a garden-variety Summer with that typical gentle, sort of recessive coloring.
No deep saturated colors for me- they drain me, leave me wilted, ha.
But hue is only one dimension. "Contrast" is just as important. In other words, is there high contrast in your coloring, for example, black skin and white hair ( or vice versa). Or is there only muted contrast, like I have-- my eyes, hair and skin don't contrast with each other that much, don't have that wide light/dark differential.
If you're high contrast, you'll look better in high contrast outfits. And if you're low contrast, you'll want colors that tend to "blend" rather than contrast with each other....
But the more you read, the more you'll pick up about this-- for the most part, it really works, I believe.

I have a very light complexion and don't wear pastels of any color.

For me, it's red. I'm a brunette with warm skin tone. It was cooler outside yesterday and I wore a light weight red sweater I have not worn for many years. Now I remember why I have not worn it much - I did not feel good at all about my appearance yesterday even though I was wearing make up and had a good hair day.
How about you?
