@Jk9 wrote:I reached the same conclusion to start wearing and using the "better stuff" I have. I often wear nice tops, pants and flats out (instead of athletic shoes). I also do a simple make up when I go out. Use my Shark styler to freshen my hairstyle and tame my cow lick. It makes me feel like "me" when I clean up to go out. I don't want to look sloppy.
@Jk9 I totally agree. I like feeling not too sloppy even at home. I always have aprons to cover myself if I spill or splash (often) in the kitchen.

I prefer to wear leisure type outfits at home such as Anybody or Muk Luks. Absolutely never leggings, no one can convince me they look good on anyone. In winter I wear nice slacks or trousers with a sweater when I am going out. In summer I generally wear a maxi dress when I am going out.

LOVE!!! I'm the same way. I WFH most of the week and it's sweatpants and tee or sweatshirt. It's comfortable and suits my needs.
When I have to go into the office I dress, or if we're going out to a nice dinner, it's jeans and a nice top.
Always make up, whether home or out, as I really enjoy it. A nice handbag and shoes when I leave the house.
Other than that, if I head out to the store or just a casual breakfast/lunch with a friend, it's nicer jeans and a nicer tee, like you.

Unless I am doing major house work like mopping floors, which I do on my knees or working in the yard I am 'dressed up/casual every day. I always do my hair, make up and jewelry.
I do find myself like @Shanus mentioned wearing nicer things around the house...why not! If I am cooking I usually wear an apron because I tend to wipe my hands on my clothes, bad habit...or I throw a towel over my shoulder to use.
I really don't need any new clothes, but at times I tire of things. I am trying to hold off buying any clothes for 3 months.

I still work, so I have nice clothing. I don't usually buy QVC clothes. But I have purchased a few in the past. So I buy from stores. Saying that, I spend a lot of money on clothing. But I'm always on the look out for sales and events in stores. Even my casual clothing is expensive. My jeans are from Rag & Bone, etc. Those average over $200.00 per pair. But I can wear jeans to work. So I wear the nice clean tailored kind.

@RetRN Although it's a very general statement, ITA about the leggings. I just don't see many women who look great in them. IMO, jojjers are a close second especially when too long and they pool around the ankles.

@Mom2Dogs I started seriously thinking about this better clothing thing after my Mom died. We cleaned out her apartment and there were really nice outfits (a lot) from Talbots, Chico's etc. with the tags still on. She was always "saving" these for an ocassion that were not often enough. She stayed in her same three tops and pants. WHY?!?
I have always done skincare and hair after my shower and now the change to the next step in clothing and barely there makeup makes me feel better about myself. I find I'm going out more often because I don't have to think "Oh well, I'd have to get dressed, do hair, put on makeup. I'll just go tomorrow".

I'm enjoying the thread.
I always have my hair and makeup done. Neither one takes very long. I like the heatless curls for my hair and minimal makeup.
I rotate through my clothes based on season and activity. I'm also drawn to particular colors more during some seasons. I tend to wear white, gray, and navy during the summer and deeper colors through the cooler months. Deep reds and burgandies are singing to me now.
I wear long sleeves during cooler months and short sleeves when it's hot. I have lighter weight fabrics that I wear in summer and heavier weights when it's cold.
I have some sophisticated coats and clothing that I wear in the city or when I vacation to Europe.
I live in the Intermountain West and performance clothing for hiking, biking, and skiing is popular here. It is a more casual style but it's still a curated style.
I've tamed my wardrobe but it remains fairly large due to the large fluctuations of my needs.

@Shanus I have a great suggestion for you space and closet wise.
Why not have "California style" closets installed by a professional?
They are wonderful and will triple up the space in each of your closets.
You will work with the designer on how you want them to be. It won't break the bank either. Just a great decision and best I ever made!

A very close friend of mine died in 2011. A month or two after her passing, her husband told all her girlfriends. " wear all your special things now!". His wife saved this for "good", this jewelry piece for "special occasions". He was quite sad that many of the "special" things had tags and were never worn, put in a drawer, untouched, for another time. So, although I do dress a little more casually at home, I don't save things for special occasions! Enjoy it today! I do this with jewelry, lingerie, and clothing. It made us all sad.
