Any thoughts on thumb holes in some sleeve cuffs?   Do they have a purpose?

Re: Thumb Holes - Yay or Nay?

[ Edited ]

Since I LIVE in Cuddl Duds YEAR round and essentially every one of their shirts has thumbholes, I will say Yes, they serve a purpose! I use them if my hands are cold, they are also very convenient if I have to put a jacket on over the shirt as the sleeves don't "ride" up this way.

I don't see why anyone would have an issue with them, they are there if you need them and if you don't just don't use them. Pretty simple :-)

Love thumbholes.  Been wearing  arm warmers with them most of my life.  I taught baton for over 20 years and used them for high school twirlers to wear at football games to keep the wrists and more moveable.

I have one item, A342098 Cuddl Duds Double Plush Velour Mock Neck Zip-Up Jacket that has thumb holes.  I don't use them, and they don't bother me. I thought they were a bit silly, but I overlooked them and and glad I did, I love this jacket!!

Yes! I have one top with thumb holes. As for purpose I think they provide a little warmth for hands and protection from sun.

@BrandiDavis   Agree.  I wear a lot of the brands AnyBody, Peace Love World, and non-QVC "athletic-wear."  I love my thumb holes for the same reasons you gave.

Going out on my deck early on a cold morning with my thermos of coffee to clear my head; walking my dog; out on my daily power walks, or just lounging on my sofa with my throw and a good book -- they just feel good to me.

I don't like them. The sleeves I have with thumb holes get cuffed.

Re: Thumb Holes - Yay or Nay?

It's not just Cuddl Duds - seems like almost every knit top or sweatshirt has them anymore. I don't use thumb holes and have cut them off a time or two. I can keep my sleeves pulled down without them.  So it's not an "issue" -- just wondered why they are there in the first place.  Thank you for the explanations.  For me, I try not to buy garments with obvious holes on the cuffs,  but they're difficult to avoid.   Some of the cutest knit tops have them.

Re: Thumb Holes - Yay or Nay?

I have a couple of thumb hole shirts.  When I ride my bike early in the morning and it is cold, I'm glad to have them.  Otherwise, I ignore their existence and don't use the thumb hole .  They have a purpose but I don't incorporate them into my daily wardrobe.

Re: Thumb Holes - Yay or Nay?

I have a lot of athletic wear with thumbholes.  Sometimes I use them and sometimes I don't.

Yay for me!
