Personally, other than the few staples they used to sell, I think Target missed the boat when they decided that they, like everybody else, had to get into the grocery business. And if they were going to make that change then they might have offered a full selection of groceries. As it is now and as someone else said, I can't fill a full grocery order at Target. When I go there to shop for other things, I can and usually do pick up a few things, but if I need to go grocery shopping, I head to the grocery store... The space they've allocated to their half-hearted grocery effort is space that used to be taken up by other merchandise... Still, I enjoy shopping at Target and hope they pull it together. I do, though, often question the directions many CEO's assume will be their salvation and I don't think more 'fresh foods' aimed at younger buyers is going to be their salvation. Younger buyers who seek out fresh foods are not seeking them out at Target... From where I sit, yes, they should boost their fashion, accessories and home decor departments and it wouldn't hurt them to give their book section a shot in the arm either...

I used to enjoy shopping when I could go into stores and find friendly, knowledgeable salespeople. I had several favorite salespeople in the clothing stores where I often shopped (Harold's, Ann Taylor, Talbots). Nowadays, I'm lucky if I get greeted while in a store. It's disheartening to realize that I am often more knowledgeable about the merchandise than the sales staff.

Shopping has become more of a pain than a pleasure. I find that I'm shopping less, but ordering more online these days. Not only is the availability of merchandise better, but online promotions are sometimes better than store promotions. If I need to return anything, I can take the merchandise to a store and save return shipping charges.

Have you ever tried to buy a cosmetic item at Target? The ones I used to shop have the shallowest inventory I've ever seen. Go in on a Monday morning and half the section was wiped out. And as far as letting people go, you can't find someone to help you in ours to start with.

I never shop there, but I think these kinds of stores are for parent of little kids. When mine were little I was in Kmart every week

Customer service used to be a good reason to go into a store as opposed to catalog/internet shopping. However, retailers are hiring fewer salespeople today and this has greatly affected customer service in many brick and mortar stores. I'm on the list of folks who have probably decreased trips into stores and increased mail ordering. In my case I can walk to just about every store you can name.

It will be layoffs at their HQ for the most part. If you want to read about Target's disastrous entry and exit from Canada, just use google to search for news articles. Target will likely be leaving a lot of unpaid bills in Canada as their suppliers will likely only see pennies on the dollar. Target Canada never offered online shopping nor could you check for inventory to see if something was in stock in store. I won't miss them once they leave Canada for good but I do feel for the 17,000 employees who are losing their jobs.

Don't like that! Totally agree with you.

In addition, I hate to pay shipping when I can go to the store and I hate dealing with all the packaging, not to mention how it affects the environment!

I just heard on CNBC that the cuts are in their corporate offices - and in India.

NOT staff in local stores.

That's what I heard on the news...cuts in corporate offices.
