If a friend or associate compliments something you're wearing, your top or pants, purse, shoes, jewelry, etc., do you tell them what you paid for it if it was an exceptionally good deal?
I do! I see it as generosity; I'm sharing my good fortune in finding this beautiful piece with you....

I just say thank you.

No. Frankly, when someone tells me the price they paid for something, I think it's kinda tacky.

I agree that it seems a bit tacky. I might be inclined to tell them where I got it, but would probably skirt the question of how much I paid. All this depends, of course, on who is asking. Someone very close I might give them a general answer - like less than $100.00. I don't think I would give exact disclosure.

I just say thank you. I would only give further information if a very close friend asked for it.

A close friend who I know to be a fashionista, yes, we discuss. On the Q fashion forum, yes. An acquaintance, no, unless they ask, then I have no problem telling. I tend to agree with you...that it's sharing info, especially if it's a good deal.

Personally I have never asked someone what they paid for anything and don't offer what I paid for things. It amazes me when people ask these questions and expect an answer.

The whole 'tacky' thing has it's roots in the aristocracy; it's gauche to brag about how MUCH you spent and it simply trickled down, conveniently, to a good cover for the wealthy and entitled not wanting to be laughed at for over spending!

I just say "Thank You." If they ask where I got it, yes, I definitely let them know, whether I'm close to the person or if I just met them in the elevator. I take it as a compliment. I never tell them prices though.

I just say thank you and maybe say where I bought it depending upon who's giving the compliment.
