Two piece for me. I love getting ready for summer!

During the summer, my friends and I (ages range from 64-82) are in the pool whenever the weather permits. I prefer a one piece with a high back like the one in your first picture. I also have a few tankinis. I tuck them into the bottoms when I'm in the pool so they don't float up on me. Our bathing beauty days may be over, but we've all been able to find suits that allow us to enjoy ourselves in the water.

I started wearing a tankini with a skirted bottom when I was chasing a toddler at the pool. It’s still my preferred style.

My bikini days are long behind me though I proudly can say I pulled it off for a lot of years.  Once I became a mom though and the kids were school ages I became more conservative.  I like tankini's mostly but I have many bathing suits and I alternate with those and one peices, but when nature calls I find the two piece easier.  Never have been a thong person.

  1. So....    Over the past 25 years, I have lost 170lbs.  Much of it 25 years ago after gastric bypass but I lose a fee lbs every year.  I'm an 18/20.  My body is in great shape except for my thighs.  Let's just say my thighs are   my worst feature.  I didn't wear a swim suits for 30 years but I did wear one last year and it felt great!  I bought a swim capris from Lands End and I bought 2 swim tops.  Problem solved!  I could go to the beach and friends pools and enjoy the water.  The capris hits slightly below my knee so it covers what needs to be covered.  I thought the swim capris would look odd but I saw other women with them at the beach.

I prefer tankinis...luckily the tops are longer on me. I like a matching sarong as a coverup.

After looking around at other grandmas at the beach/pool and their shapes, I realized we're all busy with our own activities...no one's looking at me.

@Shanus   Such a wise point!  I'm also a Grandma who likes tankinis & I'm short so the tops are always long.  I wear a swimskirt &/or crocheted cover up over it.  And I am no model and my legs have veins and surgical scars but my family & grandchildren don't care.  Once I get out of my own head about feeling self-conscious I realize we are all human & nobody is focused on just my flaws.  Everyone is busy with his/her own life!

I am 68 and am in a swimsuit everyday.  I am a Red Cross certified lifeguard at our local rec center and I swim laps for fitness five mornings a week.  I always wear a one piece.  For lifeguarding and laps I wear Lands End suits usually with high necks and back hooks or back cross straps.  At our lake house in the summer I like strapless suits.  My favorite brand lately is Maxine of Hollywood.  I usually wear a pair of pull on shorts over the suit if I want to feel a little more covered.  I don't like tankinis.  Unless you are standing still there always seems to be skin showing where it shouldn't.

Kudos to all who enjoy the beach and swimming no matter your size or shape.  Love that attitude!
