Styling a Scarf, Q Style

Ok Fashionistas- Everytime a scarf is presented one of the models is wearing it like a vest, belted at the waist. I've never seen anyone actually wear a scarf like this and I wonder if anyone does in the real world. I'm on the fence about it- I don't really hate it, but.... I don't like it either. I think I would feel awkward wearing a scarf this way. What do you ladies think?
