@teganslaw wrote:

Microsoft has several articles about style after 60. examples how to style blazers, how to style flannel, how to style blouses, etc. after the age of 60. I read a couple of the articles, not all of them.

I have no idea who writes this stuff, but I think they're useless .The writers must have had timelines to meet. Why focus on over 60?  It's like people never knew what to wear until the internet came along. Everyone has their own style, no matter their age. Articles like these don't define the general public.

First you have to care, no matter how old you are.  So to me the question is, why don't women care how they look?  Don't tell me comfort, because you can be comfortable and look nice.  Do women have such low self-esteem?  Or are women just too busy to care?

Hey, don't tell me what to wear.  I'm very happy in my ripped jeans and midriff crop tops I'm only in my 70's after all. Well, not really. 😄😄 I try to look my best without getting too caught up in it.

I think it's fun to see the varieties of what other people wear, as a sort of spectator sport.  It's not something I pursue much --  I'm much more interested in looking at rooms and houses than fashion.  But I understand the enjoyment that some get from viewing others' style sense.

Sometimes, not often, I'll get on a brief jag of royal clothes watching.  That's because in general, their clothes have more refinement and discretion than much of what you see out there.  Sometimes I like to see what somebody like Cindy Hattersley, as she says about herself, "well over 60", is wearing.  Hers is not my style, but it's vibrant, and I still enjoy seeing what she comes up with.   Maybe I'll even get an idea or two-- my default style is "unimaginative-aging preppy-frump", which mostly I'm quite OK with...

Mostly, I like that she seems to know and be comfortable with her own style--

Really am sick of these so called tips for older women, I wear what I like when I feel like it.......we all have to dress for our builds and heights and tastes not our age as long as we are not being outlandish and wearing something for a teenager

I enjoy Cindy Hattersley's blog, too, @Oznell, and her bohemian style.

You might like Une Femme D'un Certain Age.  She is more gamine in her styles.  She is pushing her new color analysis services more and more though.

This topic came to mind as I was getting dressed today.

I'm well over 60 ... and what I'm wearing today is just like what I was wearing in 1963 after I "discovered" turtleneck shirts.

Today .....   Jeans, sneakers and a striped turtleneck shirt.

I checked some old photos .... my hair style is about the same also!

If it ain't broke .... don't fix it!

Sounds great @ALRATIBA  When you find a style that works for you, that's what a person should wear.

If we are "over 60", don't we know how to dress ourselves? Don't we know what our lifestyle is, what is appropriate, what we are comfortable wearing, what styles, patterns, colors look best on our own bodies? What I don't know is...if we don't know by now, why not?

I agree with these comments. Hopefully by now we know what we like, what looks good on us, what is comfortable.

i haven't seen these articles.

But one thing that occurs to me is: these are also the ages where lots of women who've had careers their whole adult lives are retiring. Maybe some of these women focused on dressing for work but aren't as secure in suddenly having freer days and knowing how to dress for their new and different lifestyles?

Clothing needs are certainly different in retirement. I've been dealing with sorting through my work wardrobe, what I want to keep and what I don't.

So I'm still figuring this out. I've been retired for almost a year. And I can understand the challenge being an issue for some. Just a thought.
