Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Tuesday, Sept. 14th)

Good Morning, it's hazy and what I call 'bright cloudy; outside of my window this morning.  That's the kind of cloudy that is not gray or gloomy but you still can't see the blue skies or sun.  We had some rain yesterday afternoon and are expecting more severe weather today because it's going to heat up and a cold front and the hot front are going to be battling later on.  Sheesh.

Dan (heating and cooling guy) came by yesterday to give me an estimate.  Wow I didn't realize how long these things take and how much goes into it.  Dude was here over 2 1/2 hours.  This man looked at everything from the main electrical panel in the house to every duct, the amount of ventilation in the walled off furnace room, every wire, how the AC connects to the electric company's meter etc.  I had 2 requests - give me a new shut off for the water that will feed the bypass humidifier and I asked if they could replace the two small panels of 'return pan' metal that covers the duct.  Okay I didn't know it was called a return pan.  I pointed above the washer (not in the furnace room) and said, my husband removed these for some kind of cables or phone lines and he bent the tin and when I walk across the kitchen floor it makes a noise, lol.

I had specific furnace, AC and humidifier models in mind and we consultated about BTUs, thermostats etc. Maybe it's just me but I found the entire experience interesting as all get out.  Dan liked to talk about what was needed and why and I really learned alot.  I felt the price was fair, signed the contract and put down the down payment.  The work starts next week Wednesday.

Buying a car is so much easier for me.  I know cars are far more expensive and should probably give me more pause, but a furnace and AC are part of the house infrastructure to me and I wanted to choose wisely.  He didn't try to upsell me on anything and he had a sense of humor.  I still needed a nap after he left Woman Very Happy

How are you today?

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Tuesday, Sept. 14th)

Bernie--Thank you for starting the thread. Yes, buying a car is much easier but since we also spend much time in our  homes, it is important that the installation of heating be done well since it is not an inexpensive project.

It  is a beautiful sunny day and I have been continuing my mission to declutter. It is amazing how small items can go unnoticed; it is so much easier to notice the bigger things. How many different spatulas does one need? I just use that as an example, as I used to acquire some of the "latest and greatest" gadgets. I have an instant pot already in the car destined for donation.

The surgeon's office just notified me that elective surgeries are being cancelled but since my knee surgery is at the end of October, I might be good to go depending upon the infection rate near that time. We are. having really bad problems with available beds because of the Covid needing hospitalization for severe  problems.

I don't watch the Q that much as I am over supplied with items. If I need something, I will check it out and comparison shop with Amazon. If I am staying home, I really don't need whatever the height of fashion might be. I wear casual clothing when going for a drive, etc. I have an eye appointment tomorrow. I make sure I keep my medical appointments.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Tuesday, Sept. 14th)

Hi Everyone!

It's sunny and humid today. No rain i s in the forecast but I think tomorrow may be a different story.

I treated myself today and watched the Dennis Basso show with Carolyn Gracie while the dogs were taking their am snooze. They showed the jacket I ordered as a OTO and now I'm glad I did. Crossing my fingers that it fits. I love his attention to detail even if it's on a garment that isn't my style or need.

I just received an email that an item that I cancelled has been shipped. UGH!!! All the more incentive to stay on track with look but do not order focus. I was able to toss a few items from the laundry basket yesterday so that double check is working well.

I also pitched a few Fall decorations that had seen better days.  I did get a few better looking items on the front porch. I left the wreath on the door for a another week  because the birds seem to like to pull the raffia from it. I'm not ready to put the pumpkins out just yet.

I received a survey today from QVC about description terms for delivery and rating items desired according to how fast they can ship. Seems like they are reading some of the concerns from the customers. Time will tell what they do with the information. I also received a letter from the  advising us they were cancelling and order of shower gel due to lack of avialability of auto delivery. Then they gave a new item # for the same product at a higher price without auto delivery option.  WHAT?? I'm so glad I ordered that TILI box because it had a shower gel in it. I'll have to find another brand for the hubby. Maybe Beekman.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Birdmama---It sounds like you had an informed person from the Heating/AC company. I like when they show you the connections, etc. so you know where to check when/if there's a problem. What a rellef that he didn't attempt an upsell. That always makes my head spin with budget needs/ house needs. I'm glad you found a system that fit your home's needs.

KomKat---That sure was interesting about the surgeon's suggestionf for your knee replacement. Our son's MIL wants to have her other knee done and she received conflicting answers. Our numbers are not good but not awful. They are performing some elective surgery but not all. Hopefully, your date will happen.

I find that I watch more late night Q than daytime. I find it relaxing instead of clicking around so much. It must be like background noise to me at that time. At any rate, I know that I don't order anything because it's always sold out by then so it's keeping me on budget.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Tuesday, Sept. 14th)

Good Morning/Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Bernie.  Glad Dan (heating and cooling) was so knowledgeable and thorough in coming up with his estimate, and you feel it is fair.  While you may not know as much about HVAC as you do about cars, you knew what you wanted.  And, he obviously took your questions seriously and gained your confidence.  Win, win.

"My" front porch dove has given birth, but I cannot tell how many babies are there.  So far, so good with the carport dove.

I can't say that I am surprised about the hospitals in your area. Really hope they are back to doing elective surgeries by the time yours is scheduled.   Glad your weather is nice, and good luck with your decluttering.  I am doing some as well, but my Instant Pot is still in use.  In fact, I will be cooking rice in it today.  I make a fairly big batch of rice, and then freeze it into meal sized portions. The same is true about quinoa.

While I watch the Q sometimes, I find it easier and easier to resist purchasing things -- combination of price, S&H (cost and time), plus lack of need.  I do see some items that are calling my name, but so far, so good.

Glad your interest in the DB coat was reinforced by seeing it presented today, Fressa.  Certainly sounds like a lot of mixups with your orders.  Never heard of them canceling an order and then offering it at a higher price -- not a good idea.  Hope you find a different shower gel that works for your DH.

Nothing exciting planned here.  The big news is that my DD passed her certification test to become a "signing agent" for the State (this mostly has to do with real estate transactions), and her score was very high.  It will be a while before she gets all the necessary papers, etc., but she is thrilled.  I am so happy that this worked out for her so well after all the heartbreak of the medical billing and coding class.  Much needed ego boost for her.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice evening and sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda
