Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Tuesday, December 16th

Good Evening!  I decided to start a new thread despite not having much news.

The weather in many areas of the country seems very bad -- snow and ice, flooding extreme cold, etc.  Hope all of you are keeping warm and safe.

I am sure happy to be in this part of Arizona that is having record or near record high temperatures -- it made it up to 77 degrees today, and they are predicting highs in the mid 80's on Friday.  Still a bit cool in the mornings, but .....

The senior lunch program went pretty well despite some items (like the fruit cups) not arriving.  One of the other volunteers was able to get some from the adult day care kitchen since they had extras.

My walk was pretty short this morning (due to getting a late start and needing to get ready to go to work), but I made up for it at the gym this afternoon.  I am happy to say that I was able to go a bit faster on the treadmill and tried another machine that I had been skipping due to concerns about my back.  Hopefully, my back will be okay tonight/tomorrow.

I was extremely frustrated that my new glasses are not ready despite ordering them over a month ago.  Since I am going to the eye doctor for a test tomorrow (pretty routine), I took a chance and called this afternoon.  They assured me that they will work on them, and they should be ready tomorrow.  The frame color I ordered is still on backorder -- they keep changing the expected time.  So, I am getting them in gold rather than silver.

DD's dishwasher was ready to be picked up by the contractor today, but they did not do so.  I know she is eager for it to arrive, but nothing can be done.

Waves to Bernie, SouthernFried, Fressa, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Tuesday, December 16th

Hi Everyone!

It's been a winter wonderland around here but we are having a warmer afternoon. I was hoping to wash dogs or slip covers this week before the holidays but the "warm"  temps are not that "warm" UGH!!

I still haven't had time to start the baking so I may drop that off the list until New Years. I have quite a few "little things' to accomplish before the holidays so I'm trying to focus on those and not stress  about  the rest.

LindaLatte--I hope your glasses are ready soon. I find it frustrating with last minute changes on an expensive purchase. It always makes me second guess my decision.

I can't imagine your temps at this time of year. It's been many, many years since I lived in GA but I still remember the feeling when we left the there and arrived here with the snow. BURR!!!

Glad you were able to try a new machine. I use the Cubie all the time when I'm on the computer but that's about as far as I get daily. I keep telling myself I'm still at the baby steps. LOL

Have a nice afternoon/evening.

Hello all, the Michigan weather is acting crazy as usual.  It was freeze your face of cold 2 days ago and 44 degrees, sunny and springlike today.  The wildlife in my backyard (birds and squirrels) had a good time and I know the birds were happy that the birdbath was open for bathing.

Good Morning!  Sorry it is so cold there, Fressa.  I try not to stress if I don't get everything I want to do before Christmas.  I'm sure you will enjoy baking later on if that needs to be delayed a little.  Glad you are keeping up with your Cubie.

That is something about your weather, Bernie.  Sounds much better to me.  We continue to have much warmer than normal weather here which is fine with me.

DD said they will be delivering her new dishwasher tomorrow.  She plans to leave work early to be there.  The only other option was January 6th and she didn't want to wait so long.

I got my new glasses yesterday after I had the extra test the eye doctor always wants me to have (I think it is for glaucoma).  Fortunately, the test went okay this year (in contrast to last year -- long story).  The eyeglass technician was a nice young man.  To be honest, I do not think the frames look that different than the old ones, but that is okay.  I think that I may need to have them adjusted a little.

I did my grocery shopping yesterday -- nothing exciting or great buys.  Today I will be going to a "newcomers" lunch and the gym.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Tuesday, December 16th

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone!

I have been in travel planning mode the past few days.  My husband and I have a few trips planned for the coming year, one of which is a 40th anniversary trip out west next summer.  I have been stalking the airline site for a month looking for good ticket pricing, and finally booked tickets last night!  It is frustrating the games airlines play with pricing...it can differ $100 or more on any given day.  Luckily, last night the price was close to the low I have seen, and my husband said go ahead and book them!

We are also taking a cruise in February with some friends and family.  We have been texting and phoning back and forth trying to pick shore excursions.  Finally got them all booked last night as well.

Will be starting my Christmas baking this weekend and early next week.  Have never been this late before.  Oh well, better late than never!  My husband and I will be alone for Christmas this year, so we will keep it low key.  We will be heading to New Orleans next weekend for a week to celebrate the New Year, and will be joined by our oldest son and his family for part of the time.  Looking forward to that!

Fressa, I also have a Cubii and enjoy using it so much.  It is unbelievable how developed the muscles in my legs are since I've been using it.  Also, joint pain I had acquired after many years of playing tennis is much improved.  I have it parked near a chair in front of the tv, and use it every evening while we watch tv.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Tuesday, December 16th

Good Evening!  Your travel plans sound exciting SouthernFried.  It is great that you and your DH will be celebrating 40 years of marriage next year.  I'm sure you will have lots of fun in New Orleans and the cruise as well.  What a coincidence about the Cubii.

I really enjoyed the lunch yesterday.  We were at a Turkish (and Mediterranean) restaurant, and the food was excellent.  I ordered a platter that included some green beans that really reminded me of my time in Turkey.  They also had beautiful chandeliers that I fell in love with when I was in Turkey.

As we were leaving, I noticed they had some small decorative lamps for sale.  When I found they were only asking $40, I decided that would be my Christmas present to me.  I took a picture, but it does not do it justice.

One of the ladies had made treats for us, and I have to say those Martha Stewart thin and crispy chocolate chip cookies were so good as to be addictive.

DH's friend called me after I got home, and he and his friend/roommate are going on another cruise -- leaving today.  James (the roommate/friend) wanted to be away over Christmas and New Years, so he found a Caribbean cruise that fit the bill.

My regular gym was closed for maintenance, so I tried a different one (there are six in our recreation system), and found new treadmills.  Fortunately, one of the ladies from my regular gym showed me how to turn it on.  I walked faster than usual, which probably explains some of the pains I had last night.

This morning, I had an appointment to have a hearing test.  The audiologist that I had years ago was back, and he was extremely nice.  But, one of my ears was blocked with wax, and at first they wanted me to get another appointment.  Fortunately, the technician agreed to fit me in.  She told me to come back in September next year.  Will do.

I worked at the Sheriff's Auxiliary this afternoon, and had a call from the alterations place that my pants were ready for pick-up today or for a couple of hours next week.  When I said that I could not make it by 3:00 when they closed or the couple of hours they were open next week, they told me they would stay late for me.  How nice!  And, the ladies greeted me warmly.

I came home and changed, and went to have my glasses adjusted (the frames were too tight in the back).  They were nice as well.  Hopefully, this will work.

It seems like almost everyone is in a holiday mood and being so kind.  How wonderful!

Your upcoming travel plans sound fun @SouthernFried

It's been years since I've been to New Orleans - I had a good time.

@LindaLatte  Linda, I'm sure the lamp is beautiful and it was serendipitous that you happened to visit the restaraunt when the lamps were on sale.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Tuesday, December 16th

Good Afternoon!  I agree with you Bernie -- that lamp purchase was meant to be.

I did not get in my usual morning walk since my "handyman" (friend's son) was coming over to help me with a couple of things.  He had been in pain for many months, but finally had a procedure and is getting better.

Anyway, he was able to tighten one of my bathtub faucets.  The kitchen fluorescent lights were more of an issue.  He looked at them and thought it was only a matter of replacing the lights.  And, he went to the local hardware store to buy them for me, and found that it was not so easy.  It is a long story, but these two lights are under a skylight and above a plastic sheet.  He said that the heat in there was up to 40 degrees hotter than what was in the room.  With our extreme heat, that is enough to cause the lights to burn out faster than usual.  On top of that, the plastic pieces in the fixtures were so brittle that they broke off.

He got them to work, but I decided to have the fixture replaced.  This time, it will be with LED lights instead.  There were other possible solutions, but quite expensive.  I ordered them from A, and when they arrive we will try to figure out when he can come to make the switch.  He is very experienced in electrical issues, so he thinks it will not be a difficult job.

After he left, DD talked for a while.  She is overwhelmed with her work (many extra hours), helping my SIL get settled in his new job, taking care of the house, etc., etc.  She only gets off on Christmas day next week, and there will only be the three of them there (DD, DGD, and my SIL).  So, they plan to take it as easy as possible.

My youngest DGS is off on a cruise with his fiance and family, middle DGS will be celebrating in MD with his wife's family, and my oldest DGS and family will be in Idaho.  She found out that my oldest DGS is back at work -- he was on paternity leave.

I took my walk after lunch, and need to finish up my laundry, do my weekly financial review, etc. today.  Hopefully, I will fit in another walk later.

Sleep well.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Tuesday, December 16th

Hello all, we're officially in the home stretch before Christmas, lol.  I am going to run to the store to pick up a few holiday day dinner items (like dessert) and then I have a few presents to wrap for my sister.

This year has gone by like a shot.
