Good Morning/Afternoon! I decided to start a new thread today.
It was cool (in the mid 40's) and mostly sunny on my walk this morning. I resisted taking any OTC medication like Tylenol (just used a lotion) on my back yesterday, but it was hurting enough this morning that I went ahead and took a naproxen (my "big gun" medication). It is already starting to help -- yay!
I received an alert that my yahoo email has been spotted again on the dark web, so I have been changing my password yet again. I have switched many of my accounts to gmail, but not all since some places just do not accept the change.
This afternoon I will be staffing the front desk at the Sheriff's Auxiliary. Hope to do a little cooking and cleaning later. I think I will make some cornbread just for a change from my usual whole wheat.
Waves to Fressa, Bernie, Susan, Barbara (please check in when you are able -- I am very worried), and all of our posters and readers.
Have a nice evening.
Hugs,
Linda

Hello all, I more or less fell down a plumbing related rabbit hole last week Wednesday and got sidetracked with the project.
I have a jack and jill double sink in the master bathroom. The faucet closest to the tub (I call it the jill sink) has had a slow drip since I broke my foot last summer (2024). It was slow and didn't impact my monthly water bill. When I tried to engage the hot water shut off valve under the sink, that thing started dripping. At the time I had my hands full with the broken foot and subsequent surgery so I fiddled with the shut off valve to stop that drip and accepted the drip from the faucet into the sink.
I bought replacement faucets, some new tools and all of the hardware involved in replacing a sink and shut off valves last fall. I ordered them online and my sister picked them up from Home Depot for me. I've been basically looking at the supplies since then.
Having never replaced a shut off valve before I knew that I would need to be physically able to crawl around and I would need to be in the mood to start the task.
What helped to get me off of dead center was the shut off valve started to drip and no fiddling was helping it.
So, I replaced the shut off valves last week Wednesday. I get a little paranoid because I have copper pipes and I just wanted to see if I could actually do it. You know, you watch youtube videos and think - yea that is not rocket science.
It really isn't rocket science when you have the right tools. The thing is that most people demonstrating this have a wide open area to work in and that's not the real world - cabinets are a PITA to get around.
I can say that I've done it now without as much as bending my copper pipe. Am I going to replace the shut off valves on the other sink? I don't know. Doing this took a toll on my body and I am going to need to recover.
I was a bit surprised when the J-bend fell off. That thing was corroded and it was only a matter of time.

Because I have no intention of fiddling with the waste pipe that leads from the sink into the wall I had to search and drive around to find a replacement j-bend that fit exactly. I found that on Saturday.
Between the plumbing, having my annual furnace inspection and clearing the leaves for the last time this season, I've been kinda preoccupied.
I did the grocery shopping as soon as the store opened at 6 am this morning and I need to make a run to the cemetery to put the winter snowman solar lights on the graves.
I think I will connect the new faucet and drain tomorrow.

Birdmama:
I give you lots of credit to tackle a plumbing repair. Those repairs are the biggest challenge. IMO I have to admit that I do the same thing with the pipes and drains here. Trying to find the part that fits can be quite the "experience". Thank heaven for the U Tube videos. It does seem that it looks easier than it actually is but I agree that others don't seem to have the tight turns or smaller spaces to access the repair. I think in the end...you're lucky if one project/repair does not lead to another. At least ...that's what I believe. Good job and what a relief!!!!

You certainly take on some complex projects, Bernie. Glad you accomplished as much as you did, but sorry you are having to deal with fitting into small spaces and finding the parts you need. My friend's son who replaced my kitchen faucet had problems with fitting into the small space -- not comfortable at all.
Good luck tomorrow. Are you and your sister getting together for Thanksgiving?
I have had at least two handymen who have told me that plumbing repairs are not their favorites, Fressa. How is your decorating coming?
We had rare fog this morning. I couldn't even see the mountains on the way to work, and it was quite chilly (only in the upper 30's when I took my walk). Later the fog blew off, and it was mostly sunny and made it to the upper 60's.
The other female volunteer was out sick today. She is very involved with cooking/entertaining her family for Thanksgiving, so I hope she is better soon.
While I am not making a big Thanksgiving dinner, I do need some food and went to Walmart this afternoon. Talk about crowded! Some things were not available, like cornmeal (I even checked with an associate), but I found most of what I wanted. I need some things from Sprouts, but I'm not sure when I will get there.
Tomorrow is the Thanksgiving lunch at the Senior Lunch Program, and I need to be there a little early to get the desserts ready. I'm sure I'll do a lot of cleaning up (collecting plates etc.) as well. We are expecting a big crowd along with the blind veterans and their assistants plus a band. Usually hectic, but very good.
Waves to Fressa, Bernie, Susan, Barbara, and all of our posters and readers.
Hope everyone sleeps well.
Hugs

Hi Linda, I was so worried about encountering a crowd at the grocery store yesterday that I drove over there and shopped the store when it opened at 6 am.
Yes, my sister is coming over. We're going to eat the most untraditional Thanksgiving dinner we've ever eaten - meatloaf, cheesy shredded potatoes and green bean casserole. I have spinach dip and pumpernickle bread to nibble on and we'll eat that and have cranberry jelly (?) - Ocean Spray out of a can. I was going to buy a sweet potato pie and boy was I glad when I passed that by my sister - she wanted a 7-up bundt type cake. No matter what I eat for dinner I am my mother's daughter and made sure that I picked up fresh sliced dill pickles and olives stuffed with pimentos. King's Hawaiin rolls will fill out the bread.

Birdmama---Your dinner sounds wonderful!!! My BF makes stirfry for them. I've been trying to scale back and switch things around a bit. I'm making ham for today and turkey for Christmas. I still had to have the green bean dish and the sweet potatoes. I'm still trying to decide on one other dish. I always have a last minute panic with the timing of the oven and what pan for what dish. LOL I guess I have a way to go to this "scale back menu". Enjoy your meal.

Good Afternoon and Happy Thanksgiving!
Hope you enjoy your non-Traditional Thanksgiving meal, Bernie. Since I no longer eat meat, I have not had a traditional meal for several years. My DH's DD, who has been a vegetarian for many years, inspired me to substitute filled pasta (like ravioli) for the "main" course of my meal. Her husband makes vegetarian lasagna, but I prefer pumpkin or butternut squash filled pasta. This year, I found some frozen ravioli at Walmart -- very eager to try it.
I do make cranberry sauce and have some other "regular" Thanksgiving sides. My Mom always had a tray of pimento stuffed olives, little gherkin pickles, raw celery, and carrots. Fond memories.
My back was really hurting yesterday, but I did help out at the annual senior lunch program pre-Thanksgiving meal. All went pretty well, and I was able to take a walk late yesterday afternoon after a trip to Sprouts. That store was crowded, but not nearly as bad as Walmart. The major issue was the drive there and the parking lot -- very crowded. I treated myself to some flavored coffee -- pretty tasty.
My back bothered me a lot last night, but seems a little better now.
Waves to Bernie, Fressa, Susan, Barbara, and all of our posters and readers.
Hope everyone has a nice evening!
Hugs,
Linda

How is everyone doing? Did you do any Black Friday shopping? I picked up a fleece throw and some bay leaves on Friday and that was pretty much it. We were under a winter storm advisory that started on Saturday afternoon and I was delighted to see about an inch of slushy snow on the ground when I woke this morning. I haven't checked to see how the rest of the state did as far as the storm is concerned - the worst of it missed me.
