Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

Good morning ladies, hope all is well.

I have a busy day today, but am waiting for the Schwan guy to show up for a delivery.  It never fails, I think I have all this time to wait for a delivery and then get two phonecalls and have to a bunch of running around to do.  Oh well, guess that is life

I see Jean is at rehab, hope she is home and walking around very soon.

I need to get out and weed around the house hopefully I can do it tomorrow, my weeds are getting as big as the plants in the flower area.  Maybe I can just pass them off as plants I planted.

Linda - I love baby goats, they are just too cute.  I also did not find any great finds during Prime Day, guess I really just don't need anything.  We are getting my mom ready to move next week.  She has done some cleaning out but there is just stuff left to deal with.  This has made me even more determined to clean out "stuff" from my house.  When we moved two years ago I cleaned out stuff and now realize I could have done more.  So, after we get my mom settled in I am starting again.  The main room that needs decluttered is now a mess from putting in a ladder to the attic, the project is not finished yet (DH's son has to come help finish the plastering of the ceiling) then I can tackle that room.  Okay enough belly aching.

Fressa - I think is about time for our generator maintenance.  Hope yours goes well.

Bernie - Hope you are doing well.

Time to get clothes out of the dryer.  Hope everyone has a great day.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

Good Morning/Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Susan.  Ever since I got my new phone, I have beeb having major issues with Facebook -- it no longer works on my laptop or the new phone.  But, I am still able to read it on my I-pad where Jean posted this morning that she has taken a few steps with her walker.  Like you, I hope she can go home soon.

Moving is always a big wake-up call about having too much "stuff".  I hope you can help your Mom have as least stress as possible.  I have the very bad habit of accumulating things -- still working to declutter.  Hope  your order is delivered soon.

My plan is to visit one of my hospice patients, go to the gym, and then work in the hospice office this afternoon.

Waves to Susan, Fressa, Bernie, Barbara, Glenda, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

I'm glad that Jean's knee surgery went well and that she's recovering in rehab.  Short of hobbling around, lol, not too much going on in my world.  There was some kind of water main break down the street this afternoon so the water is turned off while they work on the break.  I had enough time to fill containers, the tub and such to hold me over while the DPW works on the problem.

I get my cast off next week Tuesday and then it's back in the walking boot.  I had 3 days experience with that walking boot before surgery.  Getting around on the cast is easier in my opinion.  It's all part of the process and I'm sure I'll get used to the boot like I did the cast.

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

Hi Everyone!

It's another hot day (for us) with no rain in the forecast. The wind gusts have settled down so that's a good thiing. It was a "pain" with the patio umbrellas and the sun and the wind. I guess I'm not in shape for that race. LOL

Thor has finally turned the corner today so I'm starting to feel relieved. Thank you all for your kind thughts.

Our generator check went fine. (no surprises)

LindaLatte--Thanks for the update on Jean. Glad she is in rehab and on the road to recovery. What an ordeal she's been through.

Goats seem to be more and more popular. Our finance guy just purchasd 4 miniature goats for his farm. He grows veggies and some fruit and purchased the goats to help with the weeding. I'm hoping he sends me a picture.

PAlady----I'm with you on the weeding. The weeds are winning this week. I need it to be cooler before I attempt that chore.

I'm curious about Schwan's. I've seen them around here but reviews seem to be mixed.  Do you think it depends on the driver you have or your area? I'm finding that having some of these items in the freezer or refig is a bonus with meals. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Birdmama---Good luck with your cast coming off and wearng the boot. What a long road you've had. I didn't have the boott "way back when" with my knee/leg reconstruction. Since I never did well with crutches I think the boot would have had the same results. I was better at hobbeling around than using anything. Crossing my fingers for you.

The township returned to fill the hole in the street that appeared after the water main break repair. We had a bad storm since then and the water seemed to drain as it should. The new road only lasted 2 weeks but it's still improved from what it was.

Why is it always free shipping day when I'm trying not to spend money???UGH!!

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

Good afternoon..a nice day here in North Dakota...about mid 80s with some humidity.

A week after surgery, my back pain disappeared....it is so nice to able to do things . I am organizing the den which is COMING TOGETHER. I want to get a futon and then will be done.

i still feel isolated here...the people have an elderly mindset if you understand. One woman was complaining about loud music and tvs..these apts are very sound proof. I am going to test a couple of churches next month and look for volunteer stuff.

Bernie good that you are getting your cast off. Sydnie had many small breaks in her right foot, that she was usually in a walking boot at least once a year...

Linda, you keep yourself occupied so well. It was much easier in Az.

Fressa..what I have ordered lately has gone back. I definitely need to do a closet purge lol. Good that Thor is feeling better.

Susan...we finally hired a lawn care company to weed, feed and mow. I remember when my sweet dh used spend hours hand pulling weeds

have a good day🥰 🥰

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

sydsgma1--

Glad you are feeling no pain. What a relief for you.

My bf who moved to SC in a retirement community has mentioned the same feeling with an elderly feeling. Thay have moved twice in the same community to a different section until they found an area that was better suited to their age. I still think she might make one final move to Cape Cod or Tennesee before it's over.

Sounds like you're making good progress with getting settled and organized. That's always a sigh of relief when the room comes together. I swear ---moving is exhausting!

Thanks for the info on Schwan's.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

Good afternoon ladies, hope all is well.

I am at a point I can not wait for Fall.  The older I get, the more I just do not enjoy hot weather.  Okay, rant over.

Fressa - Schwan - now called Yelloh (sounds hipper with the younger crowd?) does a pretty good job.  Schwan was bought out I think and the new company changed the name or maybe they just changed the name.  Not sure.  We have a new driver now, the old driver had a second child and I am not sure if he went to a new job or got a promotion within the company.  I wish him luck either way, he was a very nice person.  I did not get my order yesterday and check in my account and it said the delivery was today.  Of course I left to do some shopping and the new guy showed up and DH took care of it.  Of course he did not ask if he was our permenant new guy and what is my scheduled delivery day when I order.  So guess I will have to wait until I order again to find out.  I have to admit the food is good and very convienent when you for get to put something out for supper.  Most of there food can be made from a frozen state.  A couple things you do have to thaw first.  I do like their salmon - it comes frozen and in individual portions, so that make it nice.  I noticed there was not the variety of products on the site, but I think they are phasing out some things and adding more newer items.  I guess that may take a little time to go thru.  All in all I do like them.  Hope this helped.

Well I need to get a couple more things done here, hope everyone has a great day.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

Good Afternoon!  No surprise -- it is hot here.  It was cloudy on my walk this morning that made it a little more comfortable.  Rain is a possibility the next few evenings, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Hope you can adjust well to the boot, Bernie.  Certainly a slow process.

Glad Thor is better, Fressa.  I'm trying to resist any "wanty" purchases as well.  Free S&H can be a temptation for me.

Jean said she isn't having pain, but she tires easily from trying to walk even a few steps.

Happy to see you posting, Barbara and thrilled you are not in pain.  You are correct about it being easier to get involved in Arizona than in some other places.  I know that I was much more isolated in Maryland than here.  The elderly mindset is something I have noticed as well. It doens't always seem to be age or even health related.  There are women who are quite a bit younger than me who are in that mindset.  Hope you are able to find activities to keep you engaged and stimulated.

I was surprised to learn that one of my hospice patients has "graduated" and will be going off of hospice on Monday.  I know that patient's status needs to be evaluated every so often, and she is doing well enough to no longer qualify.

The problem is that this patient has no family or close friends nearby and has become very attached to the other hospice volunteer, chaplain, nurse, etc. coming to visit.  I think this will be a big blow to her and I'm afraid she may become depressed, etc.

I visited her yesterday before I heard about this, and again today afterward. Her family has been told, and I think the nurse will tell her on Monday.

This happened to another patient I visited, and she was very upset and felt abandoned.

I am almost finished with the laundry and working on other chores.

Waves to Fressa, Barbara, Bernie, Susan, Glenda, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a nice evening.

Hugs,

Linda

PAlady---Thanks so much for the info on Schwan. I appreciate it.  I'll have to check what's available in our area. I like to have some items stocked in the  freezer when I can't get to the store or am not feeling up to cooking.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Friday 7/19)

Good Morning/Afternoon!  We had some thunderstorms yesterday evening and Saturday evening as well.  Not a lot of rain, but at least a little.  Hope the weather is okay where you live.

I spent some time cleaning and decluttering yesterday.  Baby steps, but I was happy to get some of this done.

Long story, but I have had trouble with Facebook since I got my new phone.  The tech and Verizon was able to get it back on my phone, but then it disappeared from my laptop, I-pad, etc.  Happy to say that I have it back on two of the three.  I'll try the third tonight after I finish my hospice work.

I was rewarded with some short videos my DGS' wife took of my great grandchildren.  They continue to be adorable, of course.

Jean said that she was pretty worn out by taking steps yesterday, but the food at the facility is good and the staff is nice.  She has no idea how long before she can go home at this point.

Waves to Fressa, Susan, Barbara, Bernie, Glenda (hope you are okay since we haven't heard from you in quite a while), and all of our posters and readers.

Hugs,

Linda
