Shopaholics - One Day At A Time (Monday, Feb. 12th)

Good Morning/Afternoon!  I'm back from strong bones class and headed to visit DH soon.  I found out that one of our "regulars" has moved into an independent/assisted living facility in Tucson.  This was a surprise to me, no only because I didn't know she was moving (she also attended my church, lived in the neighborhood, and attended the senior lunch program), but also because she is moving alone.  I thought she was married to the man she was living with, but not so.  Also, she decided to leave him because he has dementia.  I guess she knew that he had a little dementia, but he has more than she expected.  While I understand her wanting to take care of herself, I am a bit worried about him.  I know my plate is pretty full already, but.....

DH was talking quite a bit yesterday, but made no sense.  It was a bit unsettling.  He did not eat all that much, but perhaps he wasn't that hungry.

Our weather is nice, but a bit windy again.  Hope the weather is okay where you live.

No TSV for me -- I really don't need more T-shirts, and I would have difficulty picking a set of two since I have several colors already.  Hope any who purchase them enjoy them very much.  Knowing that there will be a lot of fashions presented today, I need to be sure that I don't purchase on impulse.  I noticed the rug being sold on Q2, and I think I have that rug in my living room.  I have had it for at least eight years, and I still love it.  But, no need to purchase another one.

Have a nice day everyone, and please post if you have a chance.

Hugs,

Linda

P.S. I have a bookclub meeting this afternoon where we will discuss "A Gentleman in Moscow"

Re: Shopaholics - One Day At A Time (Monday, Feb. 12th)

Good morning all, and thank you Linda for getting us started.  Good for you on the exercise.  I've been doing well on getting my steps in, but still eating too much.  Lots of room for improvement. That's kind-of strange about that women friend of yours.  Possibly she didn't want to say anything to you, knowing how supportive you've been to you DH all this time?  She might be embarrassed.  I do feel sorry for the man.  Life throws us many curve balls and it isn't easy.  I liked what you posted yesterday about the couples married over 50 years renewing their vows.  And good for resisting purchases you don't really need.

My shopping has been about average so far.  Like last year, I am under budget for clothing, but a bit over budget on "luxury" items.  I have purchased some used jewelry on ebay.  Plus, (and I know this may sound like an odd item to like), I bought from ebay some figurines that Avon gives to it's salespeople.  It's called the Mrs. Albee award, or something like that.  They're figurines of a woman from the 1880s and 1890s and I just love the historical clothing.  I will put them on rotation when I change out decor by the season.

FASHION - I'm glad I'm not so tempted to purchase lately.  I will add though, that I'm enjoying what I have.  This week, for example, I wore a couple of Isaac Mizrahi floral cardigans.  One was a sweet ivory/pink floral print that I paired with an ivory-colored tank top.  The other was royal blue with red/pink/peach colored roses on it that I paired with a peach-colored tank top.  The colors were cheerful and fit in well for the week of Valentine's Day.  Years ago I used to dread picking out clothes to wear.  Now, I think it's fun to put an outfit together.

I am having a regular chore day, plus working on my Bible study.  I have a check-up at the dentist on Wednesday, so I will try to get more done around the house before then.  Anybody else watching the Olympics?  I record it on my DVR, then I can fast-forward through the un-interesting parts.

Waves to all of our regulars and visitors alike.  And remember - shop wisely!  ~  Charlene

Linda--I have no desire to purchase the TSV either. First, I have plenty of tops and second, in a combo like that I usually am not crazy about one of the colors in the set of two. I'm sorry to hear that DH was not responding as well as he has. I know this is a real concern for you.

Charlene--Congratulate yourself on getting in those steps. Sometimes, it is difficult to tackle too many goals at once. Good job on managing your fashion purchases well and enjoying the clothes that you have. This is something that more of us should be doing instead of purchasing more and more to fill the closet.

meallen--Thank you for the graphic. Lincoln's birthday has taken a backseat to President's Day so it is good that you remembered it.

I worked today and will sub in the same class tomorrow; the teacher's family is down with the flu and she wasn't feeling well herself.

@LindaLatte  do we know if the man with dementia has any family?  I don't want to judge the lady (I'm struggling, lol) and I also don't want the man to accidentally set the house on fire or take off and get lost somewhere.

@cerb  Charlene, I have to go to the dentist tomorrow and get the 4 crowns seated.  I dread them pulling off the temp - don't want them waking any teeth up and causing me a problem.

@KonaKat  You hit on my issue with the TSV.  Didn't like the colors as paired.  Guess that's money that stayed in my pocket.  I received my ebates check today, just shy of $7.

I know that the man has family, including a son who is a pilot.  But, I do not know if they check in on him.  I am concerned, and I may try talking to people at the senior lunch program to see if they know any details.  Wish I knew his last name, but hopefully there won't be too many others with his first name that is not that common.
