SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th)

Good Morning!  It was chilly when I got up this morning (upper 30's), but they are predicting a high of 60 degrees today.  This weekend, we should be back to more normal (warmer) temperatures.

I feel so sorry for people in Texas and other areas who are having unusually cold temperatures and power outages, etc.  One of my friends who lives in the Austin area (has no power), said on FB that her husband had fallen, and wanted to go to the ER.  So, they called the EMTs, and he was checked out at the local hospital.  However, when it was time for him to come home, she had to scramble to find someone with 4-wheel drive to pick him up.  Luckily, a kind neighbor was able to help.

I have a one-time OLLI class (about ancient Greece) today, and I plan to participate in Ash Wednesday services via Zoom.  No other big plans except to exercise and do some much-needed cleaning.  I picked up two books from the library yesterday, and I am happily reading when I feel like taking a break.

The TSV coffee maker seems quite nice, but I will not be ordering it since I have other coffee makers.  And, I am trying to avoid buying fashions and shoes that I don't need.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope all of you are staying safe and have power and heat.  Please post if you have a chance.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th)

Linda L, so far our only side effect from the  vaccination is a slightly sore arm.  I took one Ibuprofen last night before I went to bed.  It sounds chili in your area, but it warms up during the day.  I feel bad for those without heat for days on end.  Your OLLI class on Ancient Greece  sound interesting.  It's supposed to be in the teens today and 30's for several days which I enjoy this time of the year.  As long as we have heat, I am happy.  My DH walked today for the first time in a week.

We are going to get a carry out dinner from our favorite Italian restaurant.  It's a good day for a nice hot meal.

Grocery shopping day is tomorrow.  Maybe the gym on Friday afternoon.

We are expected to get a dusting of snow tomorrow.

No big plans for today.  Reading a good book sounds like a plan for me.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th)

Hi Everyone!

It was 9degrees when the dogs had me up. It has finally warmed into the teens so I can shut the facets off from dripping. YIPPEE!  They are forecasting another fridig wave for tomorrow thru the weekend with ice, snow, and temps. I don't like the ice but I can handle the rest. Later on this afternoon I will have to take my mop handle to the ice on the gutters. We're going to try our new SnowJoe snowblower so that will be a good test.

I only saw a bit of QVC this morning. I do like the Anybody and D&C fashion but am trying to stay focused on clearing out the closets/drawers of what doesn't fit anymore. I will probably purchase an item or two on the D&C TSV day unless I weaken on garden day. LOL Two in a row will be difficult

.

I was just checking out the ivy bamboo planters that we've had for years and thinking they should really be replaced. I tore two down last year that were in disaray. These last for years so it's a good buy for us. I've had luck with the deer not bothering them. They will destroy anything that I have in a planter. I won't put any faux item where they are in the yards. I filled those planters with marble chips and placed a solar light in the center. It's my system for some lighting when we have snow.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th)

Fressa, we have 20° on our outdoor thermometer.   It's supposed to be in the 30's by Saturday and several days next week. We are definitely turning the corner.   This morning we were warmer here than Dallas.  It looks like you have some good plans for what to buy for outside.  We have a ton of ❄❄❄ which we haven't seen in many years, but no ice.

It's a nice 🌞🌞🌞 day which is so nice.  We have had a lot of cloudy days this month.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th)

Evening! We had an internet outage earlier today so this is the first opportunity I have had to check in. I am currently watching Angel present QF on the Q2 channel.  I do like the duo of tops being offered and the price is very good as are the reviews. Just thinking, as I don't need them right now.d

Linda--Thank you for starting the thread. I see that the TSV has sold out.  I do hope you enjoyed your class on Greece. You keep your mind fit as well as your body.

Glenda--We are awaiting Storm 3 this week which is expected to deliver a few inches of snow in some areas. The previous ones blessed our state with ice, with thousands still without electricity.

Fressa--I have a Snow Joe snow blower which has not been used since I got it two years ago. Thankfully, the snow was so light that it melted off quickly. Now, I don't know if I want to get out and do battle with the snow with my leg giving me problems.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th)

[ Edited ]

Hello all, boy did I get a workout yesterday.  I took a yardstick out with me when I hauled the trash to the curb first thing in the morning.  We had 5 inches of snow with drifts of 9 inches to a foot in some areas.  I worked that snowjoe shovel so hard it's now my 'frankenjoe' shovel.  Right as I was finishing the front porch steps, the life assist thing snapped off.  I thought ooooooh noooooo Woman Very Happy

Lucky for me I saved the purple less expensive one that I bought from the Q years ago (I bought the polycarbonate one I bought directly from snow joe).  That less expensive one lasted only so long - the metal strip on the bottom of the shovel falls off of that one because it's not riveted on like it is on the polycarbonate one.  Anyway, I figured out how to get the lift assist handle off the purple one and onto my polycarbonate one.

I'll probably order some more polycarbonate shovels from snow joe.  I think I know where I may have added to the destruction of the lift assist.  I tend to use the shovel and just lean it up against the garage wall handle up (like you would normally do).  Not thinking about the snow that gets all over the shovel when it's deep, I think the moisture created a little rusty spot.

I might also start bringing my shovels into the basement where I have heat and prop them up against the wall handle down so any moisture can drip down on the floor and not sit there in the plastic collar around the lift assist to rust.

The plows came last night so I took a regular shovel (heavy duty kind you dig in the dirt) and loosened up the plowed snow and then used my non-snowjoe shovel to sling it aside.  My neighbor across the street got his minivan stuck on the snow-hump created by the plow when he backed down the driveway (he didn't clear the plowed snow first).  I was drinking coffee and watching Charlies Angels on COZI-TV, glanced out the window and thought, good Lord, how long you been living in Michigan? Woman Very Happy

It took 2 guys to get him unstuck.  This man is in a scooter because he has mobility issues.  After I cleared my driveway and street I saw him in his scooter on his icy driveway trying to drag his walker up the driveway.  I said hey (we'll call him John) John what is it you are trying accomplish?  Are you trying to get your walker back into the garage so you can go inside.  He said yes.  I said, just take your scooter up the driveway and please do not get stuck because I don't have the strength to push you or pick you up if you fall down.  I'll bring the walker into the garage.

Sigh - I made a trip to Pet Supplies Plus and the roads I travelled were in pretty good shape.
