SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, JANUARY 4)

Good Morning/Afternoon!  Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday.

I saw on FB that Jean could not go the the local hospital today as she hoped due to a lack of beds.  Hopefully, she will be able to go there soon.  No word from Bev today, but I will be in touch later.

It is sunny an cool here so far, but we are expecting a high in the upper 60's or even 70 degrees.

This morning when I was taking out the trash, my neighbor who keeps track of things told me that the people who rented the house directly across from me had suddenly left.  He doesn't know where they went.  Both of them had health issues, and the EMT's went there for the husband many times.  Anyway, the owners have decided to sell the house.  If they get the price they have set, it will be more than double what they paid 10 years or so ago.

My Walmart pickup yesterday wasn't ready for an hour after the promised time (what a drag), and they were out of several items.  While I could wait on some, other items were needed for the recipe I planned for dinner.  So, I went to the grocery store -- fortunately, it wasn't crowded.

I plan to go to the gym today.  Nothing else of note.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice day, and please post if you have time.

Hugs,

Linda

P.S. I saw some of the Denim & Co. show, but resisted ordering.  Probably not a good idea to watch since there always seems to be something I might like.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, JANUARY 4)

Hi Everyone!

Linda, thanks for getting us started. It's cold again and sunny. YIPPEE! Temps are in the 20's. They are forecasting a major snow storm with ice by tonight. I have my fingers crossed for zero ice. I'm thinking the storm will be delayed --according to my knee forecasting method. LOL Hopefully, today i will remember to bring the wreath in from the patio fence before the ribbons and batteries freeze it to the post.

The hubby "helped" me get the outside front porch decorations in the garage for drying the other day. The birds had pulled out some of the berry picks from the front door wreath but most of the twigs and ribbon were still remaining. Interesting how they choose what they want. At least wreath frame was a faux evergreen so I can rinse the base and just add  new decorations to it for next year.

I did watch part of D&C this am. Lots of new items that tempted me. This is my bill paying day so that halted my desire to order. Tomorrow is the boiler check up so I'm have fingers crossed there are no surprises. He should also have the renewal contracts for the maintainece contract/s which I can mail later.

Bev sounds like they have a plan for her. I will continute to keep her in my prayers. She's been thru so much.

I see them waiting for the grocery pickup at the market I use. I keep that as my emergency back-up plan because there's about a 10-14 day wait most of the time. I'm lucky that my dil likes to help and the hubby is good if it's only a few items. Waiting in the car or driving at night are not two things that I do well.

That's interesting about the price/value of the home across the street. We had quite a few that sold on our street and the connecting two for huge increases. Our taxes already were increased and I expect that won't be the last time. I know our DGS paid more for his "fixer upper" than we did for this home. I find it a bit worrisome but taxes always worry me. Just like insurance.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Hi Linda, thanks for starting us today.  What a challenge for Jean - being 'on call' isn't easy.  I'm hoping the news from Bev is favorable. Moving suddenly doesn't sound too good for folks who had medical issues - hope it's not sad news.  Some houses in my neighborhood sold this year for prices that I thought were insane.  There is one ranch in particular that I'm still shaking my head over. Oh well, to each his/her own.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, JANUARY 4)

Having just paid my winter property taxes @Fressa   I noticed there wasn't much of a change since last year at this time.  The summer taxes jumped quite a bit and I'm sure it had to do with the sales of homes in my neighborhood.  I hope that your boiler inspection goes well.  Maintenance is the key to keeping it all running well.  How did the kids/in laws feel after their furnace/heating experience.  I know it was pricey, are they feeling warmer and more confident about making it through the winter.  I know I have complete peace of mind about my furnace.  It's a good feeling and I'm sure the heavens are happy because I've been praying hard for those heat exchangers since 2012.  One less thing to nag the Holy Family, angels and saints about Woman Very Happy

BirdMama---I agree that maintainence is the key to home ownership and all that it holds. I swear that you are never "done". You just move from one item to the next for upkeep. Still--it does pay off in the end with longer use...which is worth it.

The kids were relieved when the boiler/radiator install was completed. They were pleased with the workman and the job done. They opted to just replace the radiators that were broken with the baseboard heaters ( although they prefer the look of the radiators) to keep the cost at est $13,000. Hopefully, they will have a few years before any of the others quit working. The boiler warranty had just expired at 12 years. I'll have to check the dates on our's when the man is here tomorrow. The A/C guy told me that you're lucky to ge a 5-7 year warranty on the air. I believe ours is 7. I will always be in "shock" with the wide margin between price and warranty length. I do believe that regular maintainence prolongs the life.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, JANUARY 4)

Linda L, it's too bad that Jean is waiting for a hospital bed.  I am very fortunate that I was able to have my colonoscopy done a few weeks ago as the pandemic is out of control.  I am praying for your neighbors and Bev too.  We used to get groceries every two weeks when we first went on shut down.  Now we go every Thursday and there aren't a lot of people in the stores and the shelves are usually well stocked.

Fressa, we got about 4" of the beautiful white stuff.  It was like being in a snow globe.  Good luck with your next project.  I took down a few things last week, but will keep the Snow Owls & Snowmen out until I get sick of them.  The 3 silver glittery tree's will get put away this weekend.

Bird Mama, I am glad that your furnace/AC  are making your life more at ease.  No fun worrying about it every time it's cold or hot.

We had a good shopping day yesterday once we got our act together.  Just as we were about to get off the bypass, my dh asked me if I had the coupons.  Found them in the console.  Duh!  Then about 20 minutes later, the low tire pressure came on.  Stopped at Qwik Trip.  All is well!

We went to Hobby Lobby and I bought 3 cute lepricaun's & an outdoor mat for the front porch for $2.99 as it was 90% off.  Off to Home Goods and Marshall's for a meat thermometer.  None that I was looking for.

Then we had a fun lunch with our eldest dgs and his Dad at Culver's.  Went back to the house and opened up our gifts.  Then ended up at DSW & I bought a pair of Vince Camuto fur lined clogs for $24.95 from $64.95.

It's time to go to the gym.  I will be back later.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, JANUARY 4)

Bird Mama, we paid the first installment of our property, taxes in January.  They only went up $30.  I am sure that people that are paying big $$$$ to buy a home now will be in for a surprise.

Fressa  warranties aren't like they used to be.  Most of ours are one year.  Coffee pot etc. Last week one day I turned on the light switch and the floor lamp didn't go on.  I found the receipt and we bought the lamp in 01/08/15. The warranty was for 5 years.  My dh looked at it and it was just the bulb.

There were 4 of us at the gym this afternoon when we got there.  Two left as soon as we got there and two more came.

I just got an email from our eldest dgs.  He liked the books we got him and said he started reading one of them last night.  He also said  that the black pants look nice on him.  He was thrilled to get a pair of heat warmer socks and a pair of warm weather proof  gloves as he has a 12 minute walk to classes.   I asked him what he did on NYE & he said he went to a party at 10:00 & dressed up. I asked him what he wore and he said a suit and tie.  I thought he was wearing a costume. Ha!  Hal. His Dad did too. He said he will have some fun shopping with the $$ that we gave him.

Then he gave me the bad news that one of his roommates tested positive for Covid yesterday.  Christopher is going to be tested tomorrow & will let us know how it works out.  Thank goodness this guy wasn't at the NYE party.    He has had the first & second vaccinations and is waiting until he is eligible to get the Booster.  Yesterday he said that he got  straight A's & might be able to graduate in December of this year instead of May of 2023.  I guess we have to get the good with the bad.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, JANUARY 4)

Really hope your DGS didn't catch COVID from his roommate, Glenda.

I have some more updates.  Jean said that they have people in the ER waiting for a room at the hospital.  So, it seems that it may take a while for Jean to get a bed.

Bev told me that her surgery is now scheduled for Friday instead of tomorrow.  And, her new roommate (she is on the fourth roommate) had waited in the ER for about a day before getting the bed.  So, I guess hospitals are really filling up.

The last bit of news is really bad.  Barbara had to take an emergency flight back to Arizona since her DH is in the hospital.  The people who were supposed to pick her up at the airport got lost, so she ended up taking a cab to the hospital and getting the car keys.  She said that he has internal bleeding, and has had four transfusions. No diagnosis yet.  She knew that he wasn't well, and had set up an appointment for him yesterday, and they admitted him to the hospital after he lost consciousness.  I am sure Barbara will appreciate your good thoughts and prayers.

Linda L,

What a lot of bad news all at the same time.  Prayers going out to Barbara, her dh & Bev.  No fun when you have to worry about getting a hospital bed.

Sounds like you had a good time with the kids and their dad Glenda @twinny70
