SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

Good Afternoon!  Very hot and dry here today, and even hotter weather is predicted for tomorrow with an excessive heat warning.  I had a nice long walk this morning before it got too hot.

On Friday after I went swimming, I noticed the brakes on my car felt a little off (required more pressure to stop).  I didn't have any problems earlier in the day, and I didn't drive yesterday.  But, the problem came back this morning when I drove to church.

I am concerned enough that I decided not to drive any more today, and made an appointment with a different garage (mine is always very busy) to have the brakes looked at tomorrow morning.  Fingers crossed they can be repaired quickly (if there is a problem).  I am working at the Sheriff's Auxiliary in the afternoon, and walking in this heat would be most uncomfortable.

Hope the weather is okay where all of you live, and you do not  have any bad storms.

Waves to Barbara (hope you are feeling better), Fressa, Bernie, Susan, Glenda, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.  Please post if you have a chance.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

It's a bit rainy off and on here in StL today. the heat has gone down a bit from near 100 last week to the upper 80's today and feeling a bit muggy. It's suppose to rain off and on tomorrow as well but remain in the 80's.

Speaking of brakes, driving home from Church 3 weeks ago my suv started vibrating and it felt like the car was rocking back and forth so I slowed and thankfully made it home safe. I took it to the shop and the final diagnosis was my brake hoses were collapsing (2013 Equinox).  It ended up costing over $300. Prior to that about a month ago I had 3 tires balanced and 1 tire had lost the "weight" causing my steering wheel to vibrate. My SUV has not had major problems since I bought it new in 2013. I just hit 98,000 miles on my way to church this morning.

I''m beginning to think cars are set to start falling apart when they hit a certain milage and that's a secret only the manufacturer knows !! Woman WinkWoman LOL

Wishing everyone a blessed week !

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

Good Evening!  Nice to hear from you Goodie2shoes. I don't remember you posting on this thread before, but we really enjoy meeting new ladies/women.

My car (Hyundai) is 2009 with around 75,000 miles on it.  It really hasn't had a lot of problems compared to other cars that I have owned, but today's repairs were expensive ($2,700).

There were several other problems in addition to the brakes. Actually, the brakes were the third most expensive repair.

On the positive side is the manager was super nice, the waiting area was clean and comfortable (they even provided cold bottled water), and the restrooms were spotless.  Also, they gave me a ride to and from my volunteer job.

I asked and they would do the routine oil changes, tire rotation, and inspections for less than the other garage, and they are open six days a week (the other garage is only open four days a week, and it is difficult to get an appointment).  So, I probably will change garages again.

The Sheriff's Auxiliary was fairly quiet, but I did have several calls and a few visitors.

The weather was okay for my shorter than usual walk this morning, but it is really hot here in southern Arizona.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

Hi Everyone!

I'm so far behind in posting,  Our weather has been similar to most. (rain, wind and heat) UGH!!!  The humidity and migraines got the best of me these last few days so I got some extra rest and didn't do anything on my "to do list'.  The charity pick up showed up even with the rain so I was pleased.

We found a cucumber plant growing in the mddle of the petunia garden. LOL!! I must have confused the cucumber plant with the petunia plant  when  I was planting this year. I was so surprised that they grew!  I'll have to slow it down a bit more next year.

Car repairs are such a worry. There was a huge price difference between our Subaru appointments last fall. The hubby's car was around $2,000 for inspection and mine was just under $1000.  We still have to handle the surface rust on his car. Still trying to decide which way to go since it's so old. Something to think about. Glad that everyone was able to get the needed repairs.  Brakes and tires worry me. (I lost my brakes on a car at the top of a steep hill. I don't want to do that again.)  Repair and maintainence prices on everything seem to be crazy. I hope it slows down a bit.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

Hello all and welcome to July.  I gotta tell ya, the weather we've been having in SE Michigan has been hot, hot, hot.  I watered the backyard on Sunday and was so excited by the prospect of rain yesterday.  That radar was full of storms all day and each storm veered north of me or petered out.  Suffice it to say I gave the front yard a good soaking this morning.

The current costs of auto repairs feels like it's bordering on illegal.  If it's not against the law maybe it should be Woman Wink  As women we have to have reliable transportation so.. we pay.

I hope that Barbara is feeling better and welcome to Goodie2shoes.  Waving hello to Linda and Fressa.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

Good Evening!  Sorry about your migraines, Fressa.  That is pretty funny about the cucumber plant.  I have decided that despite liking the taste of cucumbers, they have a tendency to repeat on me.  So, I am limiting my consumption.  Glad the charity pick-up went as scheduled despite the rain.

Sorry it is so hot and you are not having any rain, Bernie.  They predicted rain yesterday evening, but we had a weird dust storm instead.  I didn't see a lot of dust in my yard, but all sorts of dried leaves blew into my driveway and there was very low visibility .I need to wash my windsheild again (somehow that is where the dust was evident), but am hesitating since we are supposed to have another dust storm this evening.

We had an air quality alert this afternoon, but it has been called off.  Again there is a possibility of rain tonight.

The senior lunch program went well as did the gym.  I learned that one of our former "regulars" who has been in assisted living for several years passed away yesterday.  Nice man.

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

good evening I'm in the process of trying to figure out what to have for dinner. One of my meal is a shrimp salad sandwich so I think I might fix that.

it is hot and humid. I forget how bad humidity can be in this area so I finally shut my windows and the air conditioner is working better. And I do know that you should not run your AC if you have windows open

Nothing special planned for tomorrow my kids here are at their lake place and I just did not feel like going so I'm going to binge watch some movies and read and try to get some rest.

I am not happy with what just happened with his BBB but I'm not gonna post anymore about that here

So I hope everyone celebrates the Fourth of July however they want

Blessings😍😍

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

Hello all, I'm right there with you on the bill Barbara @sydsgma1

We have rain forecasted for today and tomorrow and this is what I have to say to the weather forecasters - don't threaten me with a good time, lol.

I got the yard work done yesterday and I watered the back and then did the front early this morning.  My sister's coming over and our meal is going to be simple; beef franks, corn, baked beans.  We like to dress the beef franks with mexican blend cheese, no bean chili, white onions and mustard.  I bought individual snack bags of Better Made potato chips (local brand) and I need to put on a bra (rofl) and run to the store to pick up some ice cream.  It's going to be in the 90's this weekend and I will not be leaving the house if I can help it.

I might hit up the local Menard's (home improvement store like Home Depot and Lowe's, except it's better than both) and pick up another raccoon birdbath.  I bought one last year and I have to say, it has turned out to be more popular than the one my sister bought me from Lowe's years ago.  Both birdbaths get used, it's just the birds seem to favor the raccoon.

This is the Lowe's birthbath.  I think my sister picked it up on year end clearance for like $25 bucks.  They are selling it for $65 today.

This is the raccoon birdbath that is a favorite

Menards opens at 6 am and I'm usually up early so I can head over there at the crack of dawn before it get's too hot.

Have a safe holiday.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME. (Sunday, June 29th)

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Hope everyone has had a nice 4th.  Have to say that I am totally with you about the bill Barbara and Bernie.  Best not to get into it here.

Don't blame you for wanting to stay home, Barbara.  DD and my SIL were invited to a holiday celebration at youngest DGS' girlfriend's grandparents place.  I guess it was okay, but involved driving more than an hour each way and very hot weather.

I ended up buying some prepared potato salad, and some black bean veggie burgers for dinner tonight.  it is a new brand for me -- hope that I like them.  I have a small watermelon and some other fruit if that does not work out, plus vegetables and an ice cream bar if I want it.

On Wednesday, I had my hair cut, and my stylist suggested that I wear a mask on the plane since there is a lot of COVID and respiratory problems are going around.  Not sure that I can handle wearing a mask, but I will take a few with me just in case.

After my haircut, I went to lunch with the neighborhood ladies-- food not great, but not too bad.  And, the company was good.  I planned to go to the grocery stores after lunch, but we had a thunderstorm which made me change my plans.

Late Wednesday and yesterday, I did my shopping -- didn't buy too much food since I'll be taking my trip, but I needed some plus some snacks to take with me.

It was quiet at the Sheriff's Auxiliary yesterday afternoon, but a couple of young people came in for fingerprinting.  It rained again as I was leaving (not too heavy), and when I went to the "newcomers" ice cream social afterward.  I was surprised that we only had ice cream (no other food) giver the times -- 4 - 7 p.m. which I figured included most dinner times.  So, I ate a bit when I got home.  The ice cream social was fun -- bingo, raffles, etc., but I didn't win any prizes. Oh well.....

It was nice and cool on my walk this morning.  I visited one of my former hospice patients, and she was doing pretty well.  Very quiet around here.  I plan to go to the gym soon since I could not fit it in on Thursday as usual.

Waves to Bernie (cute birdbath), Barbara, Fressa, Susan, Glenda, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda
