SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JUNE 25)

Hi Everyone!

It's sunny, breezy and hot now.....Thunderstorms, tornado watch is predicted for late afternoon thru the night. BOO!!!  It is too humid outside already. UGH!!! LindaLatte---I don't know how you handle the 100 + heat temps. I like a freezing temp without the ice and the dogs and I are happy.

I caved and ordered the TSV. I love those candies. I actually have better self control with these than any other sweet treat. LOL The hubby will have one or two  as well. I'm trying to ween him away from so much in the chips, etc. snacks. I just wish I could digest all those good looking snacks.

Crossing my fingers I get to the grocery shopping today but it's a 50/50 set of odds. I got stuck in the store with a power hit and it was "awful". It took 20 minutes just for the back up power to kick in and then it was only running three registers.

Today is power washing the patio rugs and I'm not sure what else will be on the "must do" list. I did order a back up patio umbrella on QVC on sale. It was just too good of an umbrella and deal to pass it by. I was in usual "sticker shock" when I had to replace both umbrellas this summer. It's been a few years since i purchased umbrellas so it was an eye opener with trying to find a sturdy pool and fabric. I had ordered a "special deal" from SunJoe last winter for an oversized umbrella. It's okay but the fabric is rather thin. Maybe it's the color (blue) because we usually have the tans or greys. It's now the back up and we have a heavy duty umbrella out there now. I never thought I'd have to worry about the umbrella taking flight with a fence but "surprise". LOL

I'm avoiding the Xmas in June/July sale. I'm still decluttering so I'm trying to focus on that task. I finished the decluttering in the work room as far as I can go until we get new shelves. That's on next year's list. (I think) Lot's of 20 minute declutters this month which is working well while I'm trying to decide on paint colors for hall, entry, kitchen and bedrooms. My goal is to have three choices just in case there's a supply issue. My bf just did a remodel  of the first floor and paint was costing between $80-100  per gallon. I sure don't want a re-do with those costs.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JUNE 25)

Good Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Fressa. Your weather certainly doesn't sound nice.  it is 105 degrees at the moment, and it is supposed to go up to 108 today.  And, the same or even hotter temperatures are predicted for tomorrow and the next day.  Very dry which helps a little, but....

I'm sure you will enjoy the TSV candies.  My DH was a fan of them.  I like them as well, but am trying to reduce my sweet consumption.

Good luck with the grocery shopping, umbrellas, and paint.  Someone in our local electronic bulletin board was complaining about the cost of paint and the amount of paint her contractor used.  Gone are the days when paint was fairly reasonable.

Like you, I am trying to resist any Christmas sales in June or July.  It is probably good for me to avoid watching those programs since I can be tempted to buy things I really don't need.

Waves to Fressa, Bernie, Glenda, Susan, Barbara. and all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice evening.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JUNE 25)

Fressa, you are so busy in a dozen different ways.  We had been in the 90's since Wednesday.  Ugh!  I am a cold weather person too.  We got 1 1/2" of rain over night and it's going to be in the 70's for the next 10 days.  We were unable to open up the windows at night most of last week because of the poor air quality.   By 2:30 a.m  we were able to open them up to cool the house down.  Our A/C hadn't been on for 3 weeks, but we were glad to have A/C  the past few days.

Linda L, when my dh got his two Shingles shots, they were $175 each.  Mine were $45 each & I couldn't get them quick enough.  Our ds got Shingles a few years ago and it was very painful for him.  He was too young to get the vaccination.  It's too bad about your SG dresses.  Good thing to just send them back.  I only buy clothes from the Q if I get to their Outlet Store where I can look at them and try them on.  Last Fall, we were at the Outlet Store in Lancaster, PA & I was amazed at how thin & awful most of the clothes were.  My swim suit was $4.50 &  KG 3/4 sleeves top was $10.50.   They are both nice.

Bird Mama, hopefully your gate saga will be all over with & you can enjoy it.

We had our church picnic in the park this morning and the weather cooperated.  Now it's raining again.  We need it so I can't complain about it.  We hadn't had a good rain for two months.

I never did get the lab results back, but a good friend of mine whom is a retired nurse said if there was a problem, they would let me know.  I see my GP for my 6 month labs/follow-up in about 6 weeks so I will discuss it with her.

I have been feeling a lot better so I am thankful.  The hot weather gives me no energy and cooking was out of the question.  I am looking forward to a cooler week so I can enjoy my walks.  We have been going to the gym, playing euchre, BINGO & FLIPPO, seeing a movie now and then at our senior center.

Last week I had a good breakfast out with my bf from HS.  Last night we went to a fish fry in a neighboring town.

No news about my mil so we are happy.  It's kind of one day at a time.

We have a lot of things planned for this week.  I am still looking for a watch, so I hope to go watch shopping on Wednesday or Thursday.

Sydsgma1, it's good to see you posting &  I am glad that you had a nice time with your family at Syds's grad party.

Hugs to all of you.

Glenda

LindaLatte----105 is too hot for me---dry heat or not--hot is still hot. I'd be on the floor.LOL It got hot at the ranch but not in 100's like where you are. We were next to the mountains and had the lake so we were very fortunate. More storms are in our forecast for the next few days. Today I decided to tackle the laundry and see if the forecast changes for Wednesday.

I received an email from my doctor's office that my prescription/s are still in a mess. Not sure how I'm going to fix them since I'm the one who notified them that it was between the pharmacy and the doctor office. The entire mess just makes my head hurt.

We got lucky with the storm last night because it took a turn. We only got the back of it. Not sure what section is in store for the next few days.

Twinny70---Sounds like you are having some fun activities.  Enjoy your meals out. It's always such a treat not to have to cook.

I usually have 3 or 4 projects going at the same time because I never know how I'm going to feel with whichever systems are acting 'up".  We have too many going at once presently. You know how it goes--one project leads to another and then it's more little things that get added to the list. It all started with the updating of the outside of the house.  We figured we might as well get as many of them done now and see how far we get. The outside storage sheds were hosed off and the hubby refreshed the stone bases. There is still a few oversized items in the large one  that I need to find a charity to donate. the items. Most of the ones in our area have a limit of being able for one person to carry the item. I'm putting that last on my list. I'm hoping that I'll find someone on the neighborhood notice searching for it.

Have fun with your activities.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JUNE 25)

All of this talk about the price of paint made me look - it appears Home Depot carries Behr Premium for under $50 per gallon.  When I was growing up Ma painted with Mac-O-Lac (maybe that was a Detroit thing) and Dutch Boy.

As far as my fence goes......

Lack of planning on fence company's part left me with over 4 inch gap between house and post.  Project manager and crew said post needed to be removed, the gap solution needed to be attached to the post and then the post needed to be reset.  I came up with the idea of a dummy or floating post since there are A/C coolant lines that prevent post from being set directly next to house.  Post was coming out either way according to last discussion with PM and crew so why not get it right? Bought everything that was needed and when PM arrived last Monday to install a picket and get the check I learned  owner told him no pulling or resetting post - tack a picket to the fence end post and leave it.  I rejected that.

Plan was devised for some off the books work with the guys familiar with the issue and my property.  PM reached out on Tuesday and said, haven't forgotten you, will deliver a couple things on Wednesday.  To be honest, once the final payment was processed I figured that I would be forgotten.... and I was.

I started praying for ideas and working on a  strategy.  Over the weekend, like it was heaven sent, I found everything I needed to do it myself without anything being uprooted.  Shout out to Menards, Lowes and Home Depot Woman Very Happy  It's crazy, when I was in Lowes on Sunday buying brackets I saw tubes of PVC cement.  Something said, grab a tube so I did.

Sunday evening we had about 10 minutes of blustery weather before the rain settled in.  I was looking out of my kitchen window watching the dark gray skies approach when I saw the fence caps fly off of my posts.  I ran outside, chased them down and fetched the one that flew into my neighbor's yard.  Fencing 101 - at the end of the project glue the caps on the post.

Glad I bought that big tube of PVC cement Woman Very Happy  Just need some dry weather to get it all done.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JUNE 25)

Birdmama---What an ordeal!!! I think you could write a book on fencing 101-110 by now!!! Thanks for the tip on the PVC cement tube"stuff". I mentioned it to the hubby and he said he didn't know they made that stuff.

Good thing you were able to find all the post caps. I know I'm using logic but don't you wonder why they didn't secure the caps when they installed them? Glad you were able to find a solution to the fence gate "challenge".  It will be good just not to have to deal with such incompetance and unprofessionalism.

We're still having some heavy rain and wind off and on day and night for another 4 days. UGH!!! The patio yard is a pond but it does have some patches of grass for the dogs.

I remember Dutch boy paint and using it to paint my son's bedroom when he was little. I like Sherwan Williams although Behr and a few others seem just as good with one coat coverage. $80 gallon is the average around here (even at our HomeDepot) I think I saw a few other brands around $60-$80 and then all the rest were around $100. I think that once I find the color/s that we can agree on then I'm grabing the gallons and going to the check out. Most likely it will depend on what's in stock. Revised approach is to paint one area/room at a time. Paint is too expensive to sit around and I'm not sure how long it lasts in the can these days.

Thanks for the tip on the PVC cement. Now we are looking at replacement wood racks since ours caved in. They are old but I always want things to last for 20 years. LOL

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JUNE 25)

Good Evening!  Tomorrow is predicted to be a bit cooler than the past couple of days (no excessive heat warning), but still expected to make it over 100 degrees.  And, it looks like it will be 100 or higher for at least the next 10 days.  But, I think that it may feel/be even hotter in other areas of the country -- particularly Texas.  Storms, air quality, etc. seem to be problems for much of the country.

There were some "problem" patrons at the senior lunch program today -- very demanding, loud, etc.  But, others were very nice.  They are closed next Tuesday for the holiday, and I hope that some folks will have an attitude adjustment by then.  LOL

Several of my friends (including Bev) and/or their loved ones, are having health issues.  Praying that all of them, Declan, Glenda's MIL, and any of you who are suffering feel better soon.

I received emails from the Q saying they have received my returns, and I should get credit in 7 days or so.  Hope that the returns go smoothly.

You are something else, Bernie.  Fingers crossed the weather cooperates and you are able to complete the job.  Sounds like you and your DH are having success with tackling your home projects, Fressa.  But, they seem to be never-ending.  Happy you are feeling so much better, Glenda.  Waves to Susan, Barbara, and all of our posters and readers.

Sleep well everyone.

Hugs,

Linda
