SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 14)

Greetings, shopping friends. It is nippy and we are awaiting Uri to bring us our ice storm sometime after 1am tonight, followed by snow.

I received a pair of those Anybody petite jogger pants. I like them so much that I ordered another pair. I  was fortunate that my size was available in a color I like.

I am in the process of reading one of those apocalyptic novels in which people learn to survive without modern conveniences. Uri may inconvenience us with electricty no longer available but we have our lanterns and flashlights. In the apocalyptic world, what do you do when you no longer have batteries? Remember in the good old days when fires were lit by rubbing sticks together? Have regular books to read in case the e-reader can no longer be charged?

Reading this book while thousands are still without electricity in an area near me has made me remember how fortunate we are but also how we need to take precautions to have things to help us when we are faced with a challenge in which we cannot use our modern devices.

Layering? Do you have the types of clothing that can be  layered to help protect against the cold? I remember a week without power and heat when an ice storm almost 20 years ago took out the electric system statewide and downed cell towers. It was not a pleasant time.

Enough of the doom and gloom. It does pay to be prepared, despite how rare the possible event may be.

I'll be heading for my afternoon reading. I think I see a pizza for dinner tonight as easy does it today.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely. If you venture out, do so safely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 14)

Good Morning/Afternoon and Happy Valentine's Day!  Hope the storm doesn't cause too many problems in your area, Jean.  I lived through an ice storm in Maryland that resulted in no power for a couple of days, and I still shiver when I think about it.  And, I also lived through a week of no power in the hot and humid summer.  I remember reading by lantern after dark, and having lots of trouble sleeping.

Glad you like the jogger pants so much.  I have wondered about them, but not ordered yet.

We are in our cooler weather period (high only in the 50's today) with a chance of rain this afternoon.  I may or may not take a walk, but I have a Walmart pick-up scheduled for 4:00 p.m. today.

On-line church was good, and I was fortunate enough to be put in a break-out room after the service with the two ladies who give on-line concerts every Tuesday.  We have e-mailed back and forth, but this is the first time we have talked "in person".  I think they may be interested in leading an OLLI class, which would be great.  They had not heard about OLLI, and I had mentioned it.

Thanks for sharing your granola recipe, Glenda.  Can you tell us what size the packages of almonds and seeds are?  Thanks again.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice Sunday and stays safe.

Hugs,

Linda

Linda--It is so great that you were able to meet the ladies in person and perhaps they will be teaching an OLLI class now that you have introduced them to it.

You mentioned the WalMart pickup, so it is interesting that they track your pickups. I received an email today stating they had missed me and perhaps I would like to review my "favorites" to see if I was in need of something. I think I have been one week later than usual for an order, and there are some items I need, but the weather has to improve.l

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Interesting about Walmart, Jean.  I haven't had that experience, but I know that you order much more often than you do.

Question -- are these the Anybody jogger pants you like -- A286476?  Also, how tall are you?  I am 5 ft 2 in so I think petite would be good, but the length seems very short.  Are they "true to size" -- for me that means are they about the same size as Susan Graver, D&Co., etc.   I just might order since there is free shipping and a nice rebate today.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 14)

Jean, I have always dressed in layers as we always had very cold winters & it never stopped us from sleigh rides or ice skating.  Our winters are not near as cold as they used to be, so I don't layer as much. I am always on the hot side of life now.  Your jogger pants sound nice.  I will have to look them up.

Fressa,  forgot to tell you to keep the granola in the fridge.

Llnda  L, I buy the smallest pkg of  sliced almonds & a bigger bag of the sunflower seeds as they are so small.

Gotta go the phone is ringing.

Last night it went dead for a few hours.  Our ds called me and after I answered him,  the phone died.  I don't know if it was the cold weather.

I just got off the phone.  My bf and I talked for two hours.  We are looking forward to doing outside safe distancing again.

We had a good lunch and those bbq ribs were very good.  I just put them in the oven for an hour or so & made bake potatoes.  We were too full for the angel food cake and fresh strawberries. Supper is going to be light plus dessert which we rarely eat.

It's not as cold as was predicted.  We are expected to be in the teens by Wednesday and 30's all next weekend.

I have some house work to do tomorrow.  Just in case we are under the weather from our 2nd vaccination on Tuesday.
