SHOPAHOLICS OAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 17th)

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Hope everyone is having a nice Saturday.  Another hot day here with a high of 103 degrees predicted.  We may have a thunderstorm, and had a tiny bit of rain when I took my walk this morning.

I had a nice lunch with my "caregivers" group.  Bev had gone to her grandson's wedding last weekend and had a wonderful time.  Even her flights worked out okay.  But, she shared some unsettling news.  The urologist/surgeon who took special care of her the last four years is leaving the practice in Arizona and moving to another state.

Bev is scheduled to start her special cancer treatments next week, but now needs to find a new doctor before she can get the full six treatments he prescribed.  (He will have left after her second treatment.)  She is understandably upset since he didn't even notify her.  Hopefully, she can find another very good doctor.

I haven't checked lately, but I know that Bernie was taking on a plumbing project.  Hope that went okay.

Jean seems to be happy with recovering from her knee surgery.

Barbara posted on FB that she had dropped off Syd at college.  I'm sure Syd will do well.

Good luck with deciding on your flooring projects, Fressa.  Not an easy decision for sure.  Your gasoline certainly seems high.  Ours has gone up in price slightly, but is much lower than yours (I think about 50 cents a gallon less the last time that I looked).

Hope things are still going okay with your Mom, Susan.

Extra prayers coming your way on Tuesday, Glenda.

I like Susan's ponte pants, but not this style (zipper, etc.), and the petite is still too long for me now.  She and several other brands used to make petites an inch shorter which is what I need now that I have lost height.  Oh well, I don't need more pants.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope you sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS OAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 17th)

Hi Linda, thanks for starting this week's thread. I'm sorry to read that Bev's urologist/surgeon is moving to another state and that Bev had to find out second hand.  She's been through he** and back with her cancer and one would think that a doctor who guides patients through an illness like this would have the consideration to give the patient a heads up.

I haven't started the pumbing project yet because I the package on the shut off valves that I bought was misleading and I thought the compression sleeve and nut were included in the box.  They were not so I am trying to figure out the correct size of nut and sleeve that I need to buy.  Hopefully I won't need to replace the shut off valves under the bathroom sink.  The valve stems are the problem and I'm going to try repair first.  That said, I like to have all the parts that I need on hand in the event plan b (replace valve) is required.  I have to shut off the water to the entire house to work with the shut off valves and I'd rather be prepared before I get started.

I'm glad that Jean is recovering and that Barbara dropped Syd off at college.  It's hard leaving a beloved child in another state.  Like I always say, it's not the work, it's the worry.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS OAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 17th)

Good Afternoon!  Sorry you don't have all the parts you need for the plumbing issue, Bernie.  Hope that you are able to find what you need, and the project isn't too difficult.

I was really surprised to hear about Bev's doctor/surgeon.  Four years ago last month, her doctors told her to get her affairs in order since there was nothing they could do about her cancer.  Chemo was a possibility to help delay her death, but the chances of helping her stay alive for very long were slim.

She ended up with this doctor after another really messed up things (long story).  Dr. B. really worked with her, and they developed a wonderful relationship.  He even called her "Mom" and hugged her whenever she went to his office.  And, he gave her his cell number and told her to text any time if she had any problems.

I never heard of such a caring doctor.  And, I believed he was always looking out for her.

Long story short, things changed dramatically after he remarried last year.  His new wife wanted him to retire (despite him being only around 50 years old), and Bev had trouble getting a return call from his office much less an appointment with him.

Of course, I don't know all of the details, but I have to admit being disillusioned.  Like in many areas of the country, there is a scarcity of doctors in the area, and many seniors who need help.

We ended up having some storms last night.  Today is hot with a chance of rain.  Thank goodness for AC.

Waves to Bernie, Fressa, Glenda (praying for you), Barbara, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS OAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 17th)

Linda L, I didn't go to church this morning as I can't sit that long, but we had a good lunch at DQ & then went into the hot tub.  Then I took my moped downtown and did my walk.  My hot tub and moped days are done for a few months.  Sorry to hear about Bev and her Dr.  It's dramatic +  to not even find out that he didn't tell her he was done.  I can remember when my first neurologist told me he was going to the Mayo Clinic and doing research.  I had him for three years and he was so wonderful to me. I cried!

Bird Mama, good luck with your plumbing project.  Hopefully you will have everything you need to get the job done.

Our temps are still in the 50's at night and upper 70's during the day.  Couldn't ask for anything better & it's going to be like this all week.

I am supposed to get a call from the Carbone Hospital tomorrow telling me what time I have to get to the hospital on Tuesday morning.  We are staying with our youngest dgs and his Dad tomorrow night as they are only 30 minutes from my hospital.  My dh will be staying there on Tuesday night.  I was able to get the Best Western Motel for him on Wednesday and Thursday nights which is only two blocks away and they have a shuttle service.  I have no idea when I will be able to go home, but I was told that I wouldn't be sent back home until I was able to do so.

Yes, this surgery is on my mind, but I have faith in my Lord to take care of me and I have heard nothing but great things about the hospital and my surgeon.

The prep the night before & the day of the surgery is a two man job🤔🤔🤔.  Shampoo and shower with my own shampoo/soap.  Then use the antibiotic liquid soap they gave me twice & thoroughly wash my body.  Repeat early on the morning of my surgery.

I will keep you updated when the surgery is over and I am feeling able to do so.

Thank you for your prayers and kind words.

Hugs to all of you.

Glenda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS OAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 17th)

Hi Everyone!

We have some mixed up weather today with wind gushs, clouds and temps ranging between a cool breeze and then hot and humid. Having clouds gives me the illusion of cool so I can work with that. Birdmama---I did see some dry leaves on the ground so I'm not sure if that's a sign of Fall or wind speed.

LindaLatte--Nice to hear that the caregivers lunch was fun. Sorry to hear about Bev's surgeion leaving. It's so disappointing  to hear second hand ,(all things considered) Crossing my fingers that she finds a good replacement.

twinny70---Sending prayers for your surgery and recovery.

Birdmama-----Crossing my fingers for your plumbing project. I agree with you that it's best to have all the possible parts and tools before tyou start a repair/replacement project. (especially if it's water related.  Water is a tricky one for us)

We decided to cut all the grass (even on the back hill) and power wash the patio fence this weekend. The dogs bath/shower is moved to the end of the month. (i think) It always depnds on my knee. I think I'm doing grocery shopping before I start steaming the rest of the floors. The entry floor is always a 2/3 step process. UGH!!!

We have a few remaining tomatoes trying to  turn red. I think this week will be the last for them and the vines will be removed for this season.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS OAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 17th)

Fressa, we have quite a few dry leaves falling into the hot tub.  Farmer's Almanac says it will be a cold snowy winter.  Right now we are still in the low 80's which is unusual for this time of the year.

I went for my walk early this morning and it was a perfect sunny 64°.

I just got a call from my hospital and I have to get to the hospital tomorrow morning at 5:30.  My surgery is scheduled at 7:30-11:00.  I laid awake all last night thinking about my appt. tomorrow.  I am sure that I won't sleep tonight.   Getting my body prepped is a two man job.  My soap & shampoo.  Then the antibiotic liquid soap they gave me to clean my body twice tonight and again early tomorrow morning.

I was hoping to go play euchre this afternoon, but my hospital call was 30 minutes too late.

Nothing to eat after midnight except water and my Uloric tablet early tomorrow morning.

Hugs to all of you for thinking about me & your prayers for a successful surgery.

Glenda.

Glenda @twinny70   I woke this morning at 5 am my time which I think was 4 am your time.  I greeted the day in prayer and spoke your name to God the Father and Son and St. Raphael (medicine of God).  Heaven is with you Glenda and I am thinking of you.
