Good afternoon. Yesterday was cold and rainy. My nephew was visiting his parents in the panhandle and spent all day Saturday at the airport trying to get out. His parents finaly got him at 11:30. Better back home than stuck in the airport.
Kathleen: I saw the pics your Mom posted---I know your dad wanted to get home and had lots of experience driiviing in these condtions. Not sure I would have ventured out!.
I went to Walmart yesterday for a few quick items. Wind was blowing so hard I thought it would take the umbrella out of my hands. I did see some adult coloring books for sale.
40 years is a long tenure--know he will be missed. We had a funeral at our chuch on Saturday. There were 350 people there--our church isn't that large I understand they were standing in the back and in the balcony. I attended a funeral at another chuch one time. People lined the walls.
I see the hanger turn is making the rounds on FB---I know I tend to wear my favorite items more often!!!

Linda--You are, indeed, fortunate to have so many great caregiver services in your area. Great news from DD.
LindaR--Thanks for the reminder of the hanger turning trick. Yours was the first I have seen mentioned of it.
I'm tired so I think Midnight and I will retreat to the Kindle. It is getting very dreary looking again and I'm loosing steam on boring house stuff.

Yes, I remember Dr Kelli shared that tip with us! Turning the hangers around. Now I have all my tops here and wear the same handful. Today got "dressed up" and actually got to wear jeans today!
The curtain panels that I thought I would love turned out to be duds with all kinds of wrong. DH bought 2 for me. I am trying to figure out if I should mail them in or go in person to the junk gypsy store. ![]()
I found some that look lovely at Overstock and another pair just like I want but all those reviews say they are not ivory but a pale yellow. So I think I will pass on those. Have nearly resigned myself to just making some.

Kathleen: I knew I heard you talk about the hanger trick--but I didnt't know it started with Kelli!.
LindaL: Oh fabulous news about the scholarship!!! agree caregiving is a tough task. Hugs to you.
Karen: Happy Birthday to you!!! Know it hasn't been an easy year for you.

Good morning all and thanks KK for starting us off. Good job on finding the folding organizer for less.
birdmama, be careful driving, your feathered need you to get home safely.
RC, glad your parents made it safely through New Mexico. Hate to see those jack-knifed trucks.
cerb, I have a stack of albums I want to transfer to CD's, maybe I'll get that done this winter, I didn't last winter, then forgot about them till a few weeks ago.
LL, I am so glad you are finding the caregiver groups helpful to you and DH. It is such a hard, hard thing to have to go through. Bless your heart, I know you try so hard to do what's best and it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job of it. Don't think I could do as well as you.
kittyfan, what is a hanger turn? Oh, I get it, duh, lol.
Happy, Happy Birthday Karen, hope you do something fun for your birthday!
Update on the water line replacement on my street. ROFL, not really. We have been experiencing slow draining/flushing of toilets, etc. for about 10 days now, since the install of the fire hydrant. Did 1 load of laundry on Sat. morning, flooded the downstairs bathroom, hall and utility room. Hubby cleaned that mess up and worked on drains; ran dishwasher on Sun. night, flooded again, (coming up out of shower drain). I called the City this morning, they had me call the Water District. The trenching company doing all this work called a plumbing company who were here within 2 hours, ran an auger through and said the trencher must have hit and cracked our drain line out by the hydrant. They will have to replace it and I should hear from them about the repairs by tomorrow, but meanwhile I can at least flush the toilet. What a fun job this has been for these people. I don't think they will make any money on this project. I felt bad for the 2 guys here clearing the drain, in the cold rain, but they get paid to do this. Can't imagine doing this nasty work for a living. UGH! Now the trenching guys were just here and said they would start work on our line by 9am in the morning if we could get by till then. I told him that would be fine and hope the weather is better for them tomorrow.
And on it goes. Waves to everyone......

Hi girls! Well, it's 75° out, which is fine by me, but there's a steady drizzle...this is getting really old. When I took the trash bin to the street last night I checked to see that the things (I don't remember what they're called) that are under the drain spouts are still there - I got them to divert the water away from the house so the basement wouldn't flood in a heavy rain. They are, and have worked well - but I guess there was so much rain the ground was soaked and the water came in anyway. (sigh) Well, my plumber will be by for his cupcakes today or tomorrow, so I'll have him relight the pilot on the water heater.
Happy birthday, Karen - hope you have a wonderful day.

LindaR, I saw there were record snowfalls on the Texas Panhandle; I'm sure your nephew is happy to be home.
I used to be tempted by the BBW sales, especially the semi-annual ones, but not only have they changed the formulation in their body wash so that it now makes me itch, but since I found out they support PP I won't shop there anymore. As it is I have at least a year's supply of products - theirs and other brands - so I don't even have to think about it for quite a while. In fact, I don't need to think about ANY shopping for a while, apart from food.
Charlene, I got rid of most of my cassettes years ago, although I have a few Hawaiian ones and some by a Christian artist - John Houston - that I love can't find on CD. I don't think I'd have the patience to transfer them, even if I had the knowledge of how to do it. Come to think of it, I have a lot of good messages by Chuck Missler on cassette; I really should find them and listen to them as it's been a long time.
Wow, 40 years for a pastor! I assume that's the only church he ever pastored at? He'll no doubt be missed - he's probably like a member of the family to many.
Jean, I remember talking to an elderly lady from church who was telling me about the "Great Snowstorm of '93." (Of course, it was probably nothing compared to snow further north...) She said she was on her way back home from Atlanta and all the traffic on the highway stopped and they were stuck overnight. There was someone who had an RV that had a porta-potty in it - apparently those people were very popular! ![]()
My cousin who ordered gifts from Amazon that didn't arrive until Christmas Eve said she sent my presents out today...as well as my birthday present, so she made up for being late on one with being early on the other. ![]()
LindaL, I think with the growth of the "sandwich generation" there's more awareness of the need for respite care. Unfortunately when we had my former MIL living with us there was no such thing...and caregivers were looked upon as something non-human, with no needs of their own. Back then there also weren't services for abused women as there are now, so at least something in the world is changing for the better.
Well, the week between Christmas and New Year's is always sort of a "nothing" week - nothing much gets done, there's nothing much to do... If I can work up a burst of energy I'll drop by the post office with cupcakes for the two lovely clerks, and pick up some hot dog buns at Aldi. Apart from that I'm going to just relax with a good book.
Have a blessed day, everyone!

Geez oh Pete's - I'm glad I'm home :-) My manager was supposed to be off today (I think) but called one of my co-workers and told folks to go home early.
I worked until 4pm and was able to go 42 MPH on the freeway the entire time. The tire pressure monitoring system on my car decided to light up the warning color (yellow/amber) as I was leaving the parking garage. It wasn't red, so I knew I didn't have a flat and just took it easy on the way home.
Once I got home and put my dinner in the oven I checked the pressure on all of my tires and the left rear was a little low. I actually had to pull the hub cap off because my air compressor nozzle couldn't get to the valve stem.
All is well now and I put the hubcap on properly.
When I was in the attached garage, I couldn't believe how hard the wind was blowing the freezing rain against the metal door.
God Bless any living thing out in this - it's not fit for man nor beast.

Bernie--Glad you got home safely as I remember the experience of a tire blow out on the Interstate. The weather is getting nippy here also. I guess if we hadn't had these record breaking highs we would be considering it a warm spell, but in comparison to the last few days, it is nippy!
Arlene--Something else to consider about your pilot light. If it uses a thermocouple, it might have malfunctioned and might need replaced. That isn't very expensive but without it working, the water heater will not light.
I'm now watching the news, something guaranteed not to brighten the day.

Hi Ladies!! Thank you for the birthday wishes. We just got home from dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. It is in Coney Island, right around the corner from the original Nathan's.
I hope you all have a nice night.
