I ordered a hat for my husband, and there was no charge for it. Amazon credited the order to a gift card, but I don't remember applying for one. I checked things out, and it was legitimate, but I had no idea how or when I got a gift card. I still have $2.00 left on it.

It looks like I've had the card for awhile, and maybe I got an email about it, which could have been accidentally deleted. Not complaining, and everything is fine with my account, just came as a surprise.

Has anyone had this happen with Amazon or other business; getting a discount you didn't know you had?

I got gifted a box of Instant Breakfast which I do use.  The packing said it was a "gift" from amazon!  Odd!

Maybe after you have ordered a certain amount or been with amazon a certain period of time you get sent something.

@teganslaw    Somebody undoubtedly sent you a gift card which would have been announced in an email.  You probably either forgot or, as you say, it got deleted.  Was Amazon unable to tell you its source?

Kachina, I didn't ask Amazon about the gift card's source. I wasn't in the mood to go through  electronic numbers and waiting times to speak with a person. It's not real important; I just considered it a perk from Amazon.

@teganslaw Maybe you returned something to amazon and they credited it to your amazon account, which would show up as a gift card in checkout.  But regardless, nice surprise for you Smiley Happy

Someone must have given you an Amazon gift card.  It came in the form of an email and you probably didn't read the email.  Happily it all worked out for you.

Sometimes if you order books there can be a settlement with certain publishers for over pricing books and Amazon will credit your account. My husband buys lots of books and at one time we had over $100 on a gift card balance.
