In 1986 Revson was housesitting in the Hamptons. Divorced from Revlon heir John Revson, she needed to make some money and disliked metal and plastic hairclips. It's reported she bought a used sewing machine and set to work. The rest was history.
She died Sept. 7 at age 78.

Oh, that's funny. Never owned a scrunchie and detested them in girls' hair but the fact that it was of a divorcee of noble heir to the Revlon empire makes it even funnier.

I love stories about people who find success in unusual ways after a change in circumstances. You would think with a life in the Hamptons and the Revson name, Rommy would have ended up selling real estate. But she turned to a sewing machine and invented an inexpensive item that made women and girls happy around the world.
Way to go, Rommy.

It's a cute story and I am glad that she was able to make something of her creativeness and sewing machine.

I loved scrunches and I have seen 4 inch wide scrunches in Channel's fashion shows! They still look good!
Good for any woman that makes it on her own!!!

Looks like someone just started a Wikipedia page on her. Maybe we'll find out who her four husbands were.
Also there's a 2016 article on why and how she moved to Arkansas that's really funny. Talk about relying on the kindness of strangers....
