Well, here's a quick definition from Google, which I think expresses it pretty well:

“Premium” as a word is not just about the final product or the price of the denim. Due to industry and customer standards, premium refers to entire production process which insiders emphasize is one of quality, care, innovation and craftsmanship." (likeaglove.com)

Are you not supposed to wash Levis?

Wash them once every 10 wears at most to maintain fit and prevent too much "rebound." Or go even longer and wear them until they smell a little funky. Use a damp cloth or old toothbrush with mild soap to remove small stains instead of washing them.

@geegerbee OMG!  When I first read that I read "once every 10 YEARS" so when I got to the part that said "Or go even longer....until they smell a little funky" I had to go back and re-read that first sentence.

I will wear a pair several days before washing.  I have yard work clothes for doing dirty work.

Like some others, I think premium denim is labeling used to make us think the jeans are worth 3-digit prices.  Those brands seem to use more rayon, modal, etc. and less of the pricey cotton fibers.  I am not convinced that "premium"= high quality.  The best jeans for me are the ones that fit the way I want them to fit no matter what the cost.

A note about laundering jeans:  I think it's the dryer that causes jeans to look worn and faded, not the washer.

I know someone who only has her jeans drycleaned.  Does that count as "not washing" them?

@Tinkrbl44 No.  The Levi Strauss Company believes they should never be washed (only spot treated).  There were no dry cleaners in 1888 when the brand was born, so I doubt they mean that.

And what is their justification for people walking around in dirty jeans?

@jonbonI happen to agree.  Just because designer A uses term for their offerings doesn't make it so.  However, the term does have it's place in the garment manufacturing and design industry.  Because "Premium garments" do in fact exist and designers B, C and E might be producing premium products.  This clearly goes way beyond any marketing ploys.  Taking into consideration fabrics, how they are woven and their quality.  Mass production and so on.

I don't know @Tinkrbl44 .  You could find out the various talking points if you researched it.

Some celebrities and even a QVC host have spoken about not showering for days. I guess if you wear unwashed jeans on an unwashed body, you wouldn't notice the stink. Good way to save water.

Oh, I see, my mistake.  You wrote the comment so it sounded like you knew what you were talking about.  Why even bother to mention something if you don't understand it in the first place?
