One of my colleagues knows that I am a bit boot obsessed.  She pulled me aside last week to let me know that she has vintage Frye boots (34 years old) that her father bought for her.  Since her pregnancies, she can no longer wear that boot size, so she passed them on to me.  They're in pretty good shape.  I polished them up with a bit of mink oil (and touched up some spots with crayon and a hair dryer).

Here is a picture of the style:

80s Vintage Frye Cowboy Boots / Purple Leather Boots / The Sugar Plum Boots on Etsy, $52.00:

I might wear them tomorrow, if it's not too hot.  Mine are reading a bit more "plum" than the ones above.

Have you received anything for "practically free" that you'd like to share?Cat Very Happy

@lolakimono  If your friend passed the boots on to you (I assume gave) I'm not quite understanding your calling that "practically" free.  Weren't they free (for you)?  What am I missing?

@Pearlee

You must not watch enough QVC.Cat LOL  It's a popular host phrase, when they think that something is being "given" away, regardless of the price.  LR used this one often during P.M. Style.

Sometimes when people receive things for "free", there is a cost for alteration, cleaning, or repairs, as in the case of jewelry.

She gave them to me, but I cleaned them up with mink oil and some purple crayon.  If I didn't have those two items already, I would have purchased them before I could wear the boots. Today I'm going to put a new scarf in her mailbox as a "trade" for the boots.  I'll have to see how they wear though, because after 30+ years it's possible that the heel or sole will need some attention from the cobbler.

Her dad (still living) bought them for her, and I'm honored that she chose me.   She has obviously held onto them, even though they became too small for her after her pregnancies (her youngest is in seventh grade).   My father has passed, so I know that I would have difficulty parting with something expensive that he had chosen specifically for me, unless I felt that I could pass it on to someone who would truly enjoy it.  Cat Happy

I love Frye boots.   Those are good looking boots.  Your colleague is very thoughtful to pass the boots to you.

Very nice of her to gift you with such a thoughtful gift..

But my question is..after being 34-years old..aren't they fitted/worn to her foot impression? I know my shoes are all broken in to my foot pattern and walk...
