Re: No Angelina and Brad Pitt at the Oscars??

Many of the A listers did not go, and that is normal. If you have been to the Kodak, now Dolby Theater on Highland Ave in Hollywood, you know it is a PITA to get in there. There are a little over 3000 seats (including the toilets, lol),. I think those who actually attend the AA on Oscar night are the nominated, presenters, or in the production. Also, there are honorary seats taken for special people invited. Like friends and family of the executives. They are given as "perks".. They have to have seats for all the presenters and their family. They allow 3 or 4 guests per awarded seat. Some are not allowed a guest at all. Everyone has to be vetted.

What I am trying to say is, many people who are celebrities on the A list, do not always attend, or want to. They go to the before/after parties if they want. It is a hassle, not to mention a huge expense and prep period to attend.. You have to sit there for hours in that theater with 10 bathroom stalls.LOL! The Dolby theater is smack in the middle of Hollywood in a shopping mall. You need a driver with experience to even get you there. According to your clout you are given arrival times to pull up in back to get out, then escorted to red carpet. The last 2 AA it has rained. Those celebrities are packed under the awnings like sardines, and get mud splashed on them sometimes!

If you are ever in Hollywood, they do have tours of the theater, as it is beautiful Really something to see! But when you see where it is, you won't believe it. They have to clear the drunks and druggies off the sidewalk for the week before awards!! LOL!

Actually, her movie was about a man who was a soldier in WW II, and was in a fighter jet that got shot down over the ocean, but survived because of his strong will, was a POW in Japan and brutally beaten, became an Olympic champ, again by sheer will, and also suffered many other personal challenges which he came through on his own without killing anybody. He lived just long enough to see the movie and died shortly after that. Angelina grew to love him and he loved her. IMO, a far better story than the one that did get nominated, which I am glad did not win.

I haven't seen either movie yet, but Unbroken is the one I want to see when I get the opportunity. (Not ON DEMAND yet)

I don't blame them for not showing up at the Oscars. They try to make relevant movies and get ignored. Admirably, they make up for it by living relevant lives.

Ford, that is a beautifully written post. I think they are truly ambassadors of good will and do so much for people less fortunate than they are.

Thanks for agreeing with me. Mostly they get criticized, and I don't get it. They really walk the walk . . . Brad spent a couple of years in New Orleans (they even have a home there) building homes for the homeless. Angelina is always involved with impoverished people all over the world, not to mention being a UN Ambassador. They have three adopted children and three of their own, and their kids go with them wherever they go.

So they're not so "into Hollywood." So what? I admire them and hope they stay together always.

They do walk the walk. I think they are very giving people.

Why is nobody angry that "Unbroken" was not even nominated, much less win an award. That is a movie about war and a war hero. So many were complaining that American Sniper did not win, Bradley Cooper should have won, etc. They blame it on liberal Hollywood but what do they have to say about this movie being snubbed? Guess it does not matter because it is Angelina and she must be a lib too so who cares, right?

Isn't it supposed to be the best, not the most popular? It should about the writing, directing, acting, and technical details, not which movie espoused a political theme or which one people enjoyed most. At least that is what I always thought.

Agree! I saw both Unbroken and American Sniper and while I liked both and was pulling for Unbroken (amazing story and what an incredible life), American Sniper was the better movie in most every way.

Who are you referring to here? .... "They" blame it on "liberal Hollywood" ..... WHO is "they" ? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

I am always surprised that so many people think "everyone" in the film industry is a "liberal" ..... there are a lot of conservatives (and moderates) in Hollywood, too.

Honestly, I thought we were past caring if someone is Democrat or Republican, gay or straight, etc etc etc etc ...... isn't this supposed to be about was it a good movie or not? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Read the thread in Viewpoints titled "Worse (Worst?) Academy Awards Show". Posters blame "liberal" Hollywood for shutting out American Sniper.

Re: No Angelina and Brad Pitt at the Oscars??

First of all, there were alot of stars there who were not nominated for anything, including Jennifer Anniston. They were presenters and George Clooney is always a presenter. He was probably busy. Second of all, thank you Daysdee for pointing out Joan Rivers has made many movies including at least 2 documentaries about herself that I'm aware of. They did list a couple of documentarians on the memorial list. It just was very odd that her name didn't appear.

Tink

ITA they pay scale is so uneven/ Tom Cruise is the top earner, he gets maybe 75 million a film. Leonardo maybe 37, Johnny Depp, 28

By contrast Some of the top earners were Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Aniston about 28 million, Angelina 30, it goes down from there Scarlett, Nathalie Portman, Kristin Stewert, Halle Berry. They all make less than any of the men in their class.

BTW talent has nothing to do with earnings sometimes. Money they earn depends on box office draw or the films they do..

Meryl Streep is a top earner, but it is said she earns about 13,000,000 a year. She was paid 5,000.000 for acting in the Devil Wears Prada.

Angelina Jolie's film was completely snubbed by the academy.

And NPH did a good job and has a fantastic body!

Re: No Angelina and Brad Pitt at the Oscars??

Arquette's net worth $25 million......Streep top box office earner and I am sure they make more than the recipient of best actor this year....In Hollywood it has nothing to do with gender but yes, box office draw and performance....so don't talk for me about equal pay or as if your life is like mine...like Paltrow's woes of motherhood. We want entertainment not politics but I never learn and watch for fashion....I worked in a corporate fortune 100 company for 28 years and came in entry level. I found in the real world, not the kingdom of Hollywood, that a male and female may hold the same position but both are paid for performance not by gender and are rewarded based on outcomes.... Same as Hollywood! Most positions in upper management, in fact, were held by women. Two men can hold the same position and will not have the same salary....it is how you perform that determines salary in today's world. Their whole world is their stage and they voice their opinions everywhere/place they can but give us a break and until you walk in my shoes, zip it up. Have you walked the streets of San Francisco, LA, NYC, our own people are starving. I feel sorry for the children in Africa but there are many charities assisting there but not for our kids and not to mention seniors. Yes, my parents always said children are starving in various countries of the world but that was way before people were starving here.
