He was an incredible man. At times the book was such a tough (graphic, brutal) read, I knew I could not see the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed the NBC special about him. The fact that the author never met him in person (due to her physical limitations) was mind boggling. He forgave the man who brutalized him.
This man was truly an inspiration.

They were probably busy somewhere. I really enjoy the two of them.

lulu, he was an inspiration for sure, I couldn't put this book down, and I don't know how a motion picture could ever begin to portray what he went through.
Nice to "see" you!

He lived just long enough to see the movie and died shortly after that. Angelina grew to love him and he loved her. IMO, a far better story than the one that did get nominated, which I am glad did not win.
I haven't seen either movie yet, but Unbroken is the one I want to see when I get the opportunity. (Not ON DEMAND yet)
I don't blame them for not showing up at the Oscars. They try to make relevant movies and get ignored. Admirably, they make up for it by living relevant lives.
Ford, that is a beautifully written post. I think they are truly ambassadors of good will and do so much for people less fortunate than they are.

I haven't read the book yet, but I plan to, so I don't know the finer details. What I saw was a piece on TV about Angelina and the war veteran and their relationship and some scenes from the movie. Even that was very moving. I will also make sure I see the movie. Thanks mm.
Ford, if I were you I would read the book first. The movie can never justify what he,and others, went through. As LULU said, he was an inspiration.

That's a fantasy.

Angelina and Brad weren't nominated and didn't attend. Same for George C. ( and his wife. ) Overall, I thought the show was too long and boring. I don't care for the "stars" using this as a platform for their political views. Didn't think Neil was that great as emcee.
