I am looking for an easy vest pattern... no frills.. no buttons or hooks. Free would be nice but I would take just about anything online.

I have three sewing machines. I do not sew. Machines were my mothers. I have asked for help... no takers... even willing to pay to get it done.

So I am going to do it myself. I have a year to do it.

Re: Need vest pattern... Easy

Hi Bonnielu... if you key in vest pattern in your search engine you will find many vest patterns for free. Basic vests are very easy to make and there are many different details to consider and come up with the perfect one for you. This is actually a good beginner project. Sewing is very rewarding and a wonderful way to customized even store bought clothes. Happy Sewing, don't dread it; it's fun!!Smile

P.S. Go on YouTube and look around, there are probably many sites to help you see and understand some terms you may not be familiar with.

If I were looking for a pattern, I'd go to a fabric store and look through the pattern books.

Re: Need vest pattern... Easy

I will look for a pattern store but in our area that is not easy as said. I think that is why I reached out here on the forum. What we once had is long gone. I had hoped someone around here would have tried to help me. No such luck. So I will get out my mothers machines and make a stab at making it myself. I think the hard part will be threading them. Bobbin will probably be my downfall. Wonder if I can sew without one. I guess not. Oh well. It ought to be exciting. I have the fabric in mind... for a theme dance.... 50's TV shows. I might be better off waiting for 3-D printers. That I could handle.

Bonnielu, the bobbin thread is the thread on the underside of the fabric. You have to have it. There may be some instructional manuals online by manufacturer. I've found them for other things. If you were closer, I'd be glad to help you. It's kind of hard to explain how to wind a bobbin or thread a machine without illustrations.

Wow, I didn't know the pattern companies had their catalogs online now. You can look up "Simplicity Patterns", then "vests", and get a ton of them. I haven't been doing much sewing in the past few years.

Thanks, I found the fabric. Someone told me about a seamstress but when it is all said and done might be price prohibitive. I will look online for the pattern, look for my instructions book and see what happens.

Re: Need vest pattern... Easy

An alternative suggestion: Cut the sleeves off an existing jacket and hem by hand at the armholes. I have 3 white jackets that were originally identical. I changed the buttons on 2 of them and decided that I wanted a white vest. Couldn't find one that I liked so I made one out of one of the jackets as above. Easy and effective.
