Need Style Tips for Pear-Shaped Body

Hey everyone! Smiley Happy

I'm reaching out for some style advice. I have a pear-shaped body and I'm looking for outfit ideas that really work well with my shape. I love embracing my curves, but sometimes I struggle to find the right balance in my outfits.

Does anyone have tips or go-to styles for pear-shaped figures?

Thanks a bunch in advance! Looking forward to your awesome suggestions.

Host Jane Treacy and Kim Gravel’s assistant, Amy, have both said they have pear-shaped bodies. Maybe look at examples of items they wear that you find flattering for their shape.

Welcome!  I sort of have what I would call a "modified pear shape"!!  My body turned this way shortly after menopause and retirement.  Anyway, these are probably things you already knew but these are a couple style tips that I follow.  For one thing, I never, ever wear skinny jeans or pants unless I have a top long enough to cover the stomach and hip area!  I also think pants and jeans with either straight legs or a slight flare on the bottom are much more flattering.  I usually wear darker colors for my pants and save the colors and prints for my tops.  Wear tops and jewelry that draw attention to your top half, which takes attention away from your bottom.  And, I never wear anything that will cling to my stomach and hip area if I can help it!  Why draw attention to these areas?  I miss the days of the shoulder pads because they did wonders to balance a pear-shaped body!

The shape definitely changed after menopause.  Somewhere over time, I have lost 2 inches in height: 5'5" now.  But the following works for me:

As others have noted: dark color ( I do black, navy and denim ) on bottom.  Tops are brighter, solid color and to the lower hip.

I now have a collection of beautiful ruanas, ponchos, vests ( not the puffy ones ), and sweaters.  These " accessories "  get me compliments frequently.

My jewelry tends to be longer, interesting necklaces ( esp. from Chico's ):

@RileyParker I, too, am pear-shaped--have been all my life. @AngelPuppy1 and @jlkz are spot on as to the way most of us should dress to flatter our shapes!

@RileyParker @AngelPuppy1 and @jlkz are spot on in their advice. The only thing I will add is during the summer I wear a tee or tank beneath a shirt that I leave unbuttoned. I never buy fitted shirts. The shirt hanging loose helps balance the top and bottom of the body.

Welcome to the boards. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who kindly share their wisdom.

Re: Need Style Tips for Pear-Shaped Body

I'm more of an apple shape.  I wear a larger size on top than my bottom.  Often I will wear a size large top (sometimes a medium) and always wear a small pant on the Q.  In brick stores I will usually wear a medium.

So what I have gravitated towards is wearing dark tops to minimize the top and brighter bottoms.  Sometimes (usually in the summer) I will wear a cute printed cropped pant but a black top to go with it.  I find it to be most slimming.

I would think that for your figure you would do the opposite.
