Shanus and everyone else:

Anyone here remember having to wear either nylons or socks when trying on shoes in shoe stores?

They actually had a box of lightweight peds type of foot coverings that we could use.  I used to place them over my nylons / feet.

I thought it was a good idea, even way back when.

Good protection for us when trying on shoes in stores.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Actually, it has always been my contention that those little "try on" nylon socks do nothing to protect anyone -- they are a thin and extremely porous knit.

When it's cold I wear Uggs with no socks outside and either Ugg slippers or bare feet in the house. No socks even with sneakers spring and fall and thongs all summer.

@ROMARY   Oh yes. I remember those. Wish they'd go back to that, but I bring my own.

@Shanus I know there are plenty who almost never wear socks even when it's cold out.  I don't know how they do it since to me my feet and particularly my toes can get painfully cold.  All I can think of is that just doesn't happen to those who prefer not to wear socks.

One time for example I was with three friends waiting in line outside on a cold (in the teens) February morning to get into "The View".  We waited for 45 minutes only to not get in since they overbooked the audience size....my feet were so cold I felt like I could have gotten frostbite!  I was wearing socks...just not extra warm ones.

So we went into a nearby building just so I could warm up.  Even after half an hour it was still painful but better...this didn't happen to my friends who were fine.

Now as soon as it gets cold or even just a bit cool out I must wear socks.  The colder it gets the warmer my socks.

@haddon9   I personally like trouser socks...no patterns, dots, etc. They don't show in my boots anyway. Sneakers are no shows, but gym shoes, I go with the usuals that keep feet from rubbing and blisters away. In winter, I tend to stay away from ballet flats, etc. where you can see the socks between feet and jeans/pants. I save those shoes for warmer weather.

@Shanus I have a variety of different sock types that I wear depending on the shoes, boots and how cold it is out. This time of year....before it gets really cold I wear mostly the no-shows.  I really like the Bombass brand ones because they are the only brand that actually stay on my feet.  All of the other brands that I've tried the no show sock would always slip off in the shoe.

I haven't started wearing boots yet.  For now it's been mostly slip on sneakers or loafers.

@haddon9  I purchased great no shows from Q that have a silicone strip inside the heel...no slip at all. I went back for more!! Wish I remembered the brand name for you. I purchased a set of nude and black.

I only wear ankle socks with my walking shoes. I live in 4 seasons and walk in all 4. Only add leg warmers to walk when it is really, really cold out.

I do not like sock restrictions, (too hot for one thing) but yes, I think it actually looks better.

@Shanus They could have been Bombass....I also bought some here from the Q and yes they have a silicone strip inside by the heel.  I also bought some from their site too.  They have a good selection.
