I've had problems with UPS deliveries but never with Usps. When I check a purchase and I see that it was sent by Usps, I take a little sigh of relief because I know there won't be any "issues".

Mishandled packages is not a laughing matter if yours is damaged as a result, but I thought the clip shown during the TSV presentations of the door montioring device tells it all. The clip showed various carriers tossing and throwing packages near front doors. It's a wonder there aren't more reports of damage from those who live in homes and aren't at home to run out when the truck pulls up. It may be bad when city apartment dwellers packages are left in unlocked ares of the lobby, but at least the deliverymen have to come inside, so it elminates the toss from the sidewalk toward the door. I suppose in the big picture with millions of packages being delivered everyday by all of the carriers, their safe and intact delivery percentage is very high.

It has happened to all of us, I tracked a package that was at my local post office and then sent 20 miles away for delivery. I called the post office and they would pick up the phone and hang it up, I finally gave up

Generally speaking I get good service from both USPS & UPS. But here on the west coast, my USPS shipments arrive more quickly. And UPS has had more misdeliveries (to the same next door neighbor for some reason).

@KailaS It has to do with "hub" locations as it was explained to me.
The "hub" you mention is the sectional center for the area. The first 3 digits is the "hub" or sectional center, the last two digits are the actual city. When the mail is sorted it first is sorted according to the sectional center by the first three digits in the zip code so it goes to the right state and sectional center, then when it gets to the sectional center, it is sorted according to the last two digits so it goes to the right city, finally it makes it way to the "city" mail at the local post office and is sorted according to the delivery route by streets so your actual carrier can then sort it according to his/her delivery route so it can be delivered to your home.
IF the mail is accidently sorted wrong in the beginning it will go to the wrong sectional center (meaning it will go in the wrong direction). Once mail gets to the sectional center it is sorted according to the route (direction) it needs to go to be sorted further. Therefore if mail is meant to go north out of the sectional center and is sorted and put on the truck going south, it will have to be sorted again when it gets south in order to get to the right sectional center. All it takes is putting it in the wrong truck for it to get delayed and have to be corrected later for it to be late.

@chrystaltreeI agree with you. I have way more problems with UPS than I ever do with the post office!

Yesterday I found two pkgs out front by my mailbox on the ground and an email telling me they had been delivered. Our mailbox is close to the street-anybody could have taken them. What happened to porch delivery and a knock on the door?

Like a couple other posters, I have more issues with UPS deliveries than USPS. Every package I get from UPS looks like the truck ran it over before they delivered it to me. They also have a bad habit of logging in that a package was delivered, which it was, but not to me. They misdeliver quite a few packages.
Last year right before x-mas I personally witnessed a UPS driver run from his truck halway up a driveway and throw an armload of packages towards the front door of a house and run back to his truck. The packages were scattered everywhere. I'm sure the drivers are really pressed at this time of the year to get things delivered.
Yesterday, someone in my area posted a video on FB that was taken from his Ring Video of someone stealing a package from his front porch. There were about 5 "kids". 4 hung out by the sidewalk while one went up and grabbed the package. They were all dressed in jeans and navy blue hoodies with the hoods pulled up. You couldn't really make out the faces clearly but most of them looked to be very young. Maybe 14-15 years old.

I don't usually have problems with USPS or UPS. Like another poster, I feel relieved when it is either of these.
My recent problems have been with Amazon local delivery: delivery to wrong address; claiming I asked for a delivery delay; claiming they handed a package to me; claiming a problem with my address - the same one I have used for 15+ years. One Amazon driver left an order at the street end of my driveway!
I get a nervous feeling when the carrier is Amazon local.
