Ive been trying on long skirts and when I find my normal size I feel it is too tight in the hip area...I go up a size and the waist is huge on me but fits the hip.I see everything on women too tight and length dragging the floor. What is appropriate in long skirts. Some have elastic in the waist and would be hard for me to take up as I don't sew.....I like the idea of the skirt to be able to change tops etc.

Sometimes, I have to pull the skirt up to just under my bra...an area that is smaller than my waistline...to get the fit right...usually that will give me a little more room in the hip area. I don't waste my time hemming or tailoring a skirt because I don't wear them all that much, but they're so cool in the summer. I prefer an ankle or midi length skirt. Too tight or dragging on the floor is not a look I'm going for LOL!

Like it or not, there are times when you just have to spend that $10 or $15 to have something altered or hemmed. Well, if you want a good fit. Otherwise, you would just have to accept that there are some styles that you can't wear. Very few of us can wear everything. For me, it's slim leg pants. If I want them, I have to go up a size and have the waist taken in at my dry cleaners. That's $15. So, these days I'm wearing bootcut.

I agree with the responces. There is no such thing as a custom fit in ready to wear.
You might find a skirt with a draw string waist, but most do have elastic to prevent bunching.

I am 5'6" and do best with a petite size a-line long skirt to give me the fit and ankle length that I like! Elastic waste is good because I can adjust where I wear it and I always wear a top on the outside!!![]()

I like midi and ankle length dresses and skirts, mainly so I don't have to worry about too-short dresses, the 'perfect' (sometimes uncomfortable) shoes, hosiery (yes), etc. Midi and ankle lengths are perfect (for me) and I do raise the elastic waist upward toward the 'midriff' (is that a word?).

I love long skirts and can't sew to save my life. I don't have the hip problem but do have the height problem. I just wear a heel and pull it up higher so that it is an appropriate length.

Because I am a pear shape, I have this problem with a lot of items. Skirts, pants, jeans, even dresses if they are a more straight fit. I am small across my shoulders so with dresses, the shoulder area and/or under the arms with sleeveless dresses, is often too big once the bottom half fits me.
I either take things to be altered or I pass. I don't so much have the problem with length because I'm 5'4" but I'm also a heel girl.

I agree with the sizing problems. With the volume sold at QVC I would think that they could make more items in petite and tall so that the average size person could also have a workable size. Petite people generally have shorter torsos and/or inseams. To expect them to hem pants and wear a rise that is to long is not right. To tell us average height ladies to hem or wear 4+ inch heels does not cut it. We can hem 1-2 inches but a tailor is needed for more than that. In my rural town with 2 colleges you can not get pants hemmed for $20. Some designers a the Q do a better job than others at trying to fit the majority. I avoid those I know often do not run true to the information given on each item. I have learned if I really want something I must speed buy then read reviews. If I am swayed by problems told in the review I quickly cancel the order. Yes my orders are held in the cart for an hour but that does not mean that my order will be there when I finalize it.

For me, what has helped me the most is the measurement of the garments. I have a list of items that I have purchased from QVC that fit me "perfect". When I say perfect I'm relatively pleased with the way it fits over my hips, length etc.
So I write down the item number of the "perfect" item, sweep, length and all the measurements then I compare the new item's measurements. SO I see that the measurements are very close then I know okay, I have a good match.
If I see the item measurements for my size are too big, then I look at the smaller size and ....say okay will the XL work instead of 1X. If the XL measurements are too small then I know, okay....I can't buy that item.
Another thing I do is I often buy two items, and I swear by the reviews. The reviews tell me so much especially when ladies write detailed reviews.
QVC is not perfect but for ME, it is one of the best online places for me, I can shop and I do shop at other places, but I don't know the measurements so I many times have to buy two sizes and return on.
