I attend a dance class at a local fitness center. Many of the older ladies wear leggings and look fine. There are some younger ladies as well in the class who look better in a less fitted pant. In my opinion, it depends on your figure; it really isn't the age so much. But I do agree that longer tops go better with leggings generally.

If they fit well, I wear them with a longer, loose top. I'm in the 60's range. I think any age is fine, if they are styled well.

I attended a conference this last weekend that included many presenters from different countries, and I was struck by the fact that even in the truly oppressive heat, many of those women wore light cotton dresses, about knee length, over tights (leggings?) that reached the mid-shin.
The "ladies" were from about 5 years old up to retirement age.
It is a look I wouldn't expect to see in my neighborhood, and they all pretty much looked fresh and comfortable. Don't know how comfortable I'd be with fabric stuck to my legs.

Age appropriate is more about how you style and accessorize moreso that what you have on. Using this example of an outfit by Eileen Fisher, I can't think of an age, or size, which couldn't wear this look. There are many examples, but you get the idea of it's about the styling.

I'm not really sure there's an age limit. First, I believe if you have great legs, wear them. If you weat something great over the leggings which includes something long enough, go for them.
If you're not in good shape ie over weight (you know who you are) leave the leggings on the rack. They do nothing for you, and in fact make you look really bad.
Check yourself in the mirror - FRONT & BACK - before you leave the house. I really believe there are too many out there who wear leggings and let's face it, absolutely should not be wearing them.

I get the point you're making but that top is horrendous!

I don't think there is any age limit ... it's a matter of taste.
Leggings are something I would never wear ... no matter what my age. Just not my style / look / taste.

It is all those things, and I generally enjoy those elements, especially the dramatic length but this, altogether, doesn't work for me.
I think it's the neckline?

.....you should stop wearing leggings when you forget what body part they go on. When that happens, you're too old for them.
