Re: Keeping it Real...

[ Edited ]

Thank you all for your interesting responses ❤️; I enjoyed reading them. And Happy Birthday @PINKdogWOOD.

ITA with many of your comments: These faces have character and reflect an inner strength and wisdom. They (and, of course, many other down-to-earth women we've known in our personal lives) are still having fun and celebrating life. It's refreshing to see that they care about their appearance and are comfortable in their own skin.

They shine with both inner and outer beauty, are inspirational, and have achieved the best version of themselves. They have their individual expression and fashion sense down pat.  I, too, would love to be friends with any of these women.

They seem to be saying without words that we don't have to feel dowdy or invisible, that we can and should laugh, dance, sing whenever we can, that we can all look pretty darn good no matter our age, that we look good in red lipstick go figure, and that it's freeing to be authentic.

And I don't mind at all if someone is nice enough to compliment my looks; I think what they're complimenting is the time and effort I took to look my best...I hope I never go out looking like I just rolled out of bed 😮...my Mom would be mortified!

My points, if I even had any and if you could find them in all my blahblahblahing 🤣, are these (my opinions...your mileage may vary):

* It was refreshing, encouraging and empowering to see older women looking so authentically and naturally beautiful. I was inspired to look in the mirror and see myself that way, too, rather than looking in the mirror, pulling my sagging neck skin up and over, and wondering if I would look better/younger/more attractive if I had plastic surgery.  Instead of seeing every. single. flaw!, I focused on the whole and felt pretty darned good about it.  I'd rather be influenced by the looks of any of the women in the OP than by all the images we're bombarded with 24/7 on screens and in print of women held up as the gold standard who barely even look like their former selves.

* Don't expect me to hold up, as icons of aging and beauty, women who've had plastic surgery, been airbrushed, and/or can afford botox every three months. Things like make-up, a good hair cut, dyed hair, a healthy weight, stylish clothes that fit and flatter (or hide your tummy 😁) are enhancements to beauty; plastic surgery is a shape-shifting re-ordering of one's physical self. A friend of mine thinks it's a Faustian bargain to trade the real for the fake. Women can have all the plastic they want...and more power to them...but they're not women I look up to. I admire women who resist the siren song of the gazillion dollar beauty industry.

* I am Team Aging Gracefully and Naturally! To my teammates: Put on a jaunty leopard hat and red lipstick and get ready because...

Outward beauty may change but inner beauty shines through for all to see. The beauty of grace, experience, love and wisdom are more precious than any surface beauty, at least to my thinking. 💖

@MacDuFF   These women are fantastic! I love how they wear color and show us how it is, or how it can be as you age. I would love to see more women like this on tv and in print ads. Such a refreshing change from celebrities' overdone face fillers and ridiculously plumped up lips. 👄   Thanks for sharing with us-you made my day.

@MacDuFF  Thank you so much!

You're so right in how each of us age. Our natural beauty is what always shines through regardless of any type of work we choose to go through to 'keep' us young.
