ID2, in my original post I said it is one thing to enforce a 30-day return policy but what I think is unethical is that they wouldn't give me store credit or exchange for the price I paid. They would only give me credit for the lowest sale price even though I had a receipt. I have never heard of any store doing. That is my beef with Kate Spade, not the 30-day return policy.

I agree!! if you have a receipt they need to refund price paid. I have heard of people buying a Kate Spade regular price. Then it goes on sale within 30 days. They buy the one on sale. Then return it with the receipt from the regular price bag. Kate Spade

s pricing is so wacky. It is always on sale. It is 15%, 20%, 30% and 50%. Every week another sale online. Now Tory Burch has one sale each season, that is it. Once in a while they have secret sale, but exclude newer items. I hate having to always wonder if I am getting a good buy.

EVERY store does this "when it's past the 30 day return policy"!!!! Seriously, stop bad mouthing Kate Spade! I'm a huge KS customer and have never found their customer service less than exceptional. Their return policy is the same as all the other retailers out there. You need to read the policies before you place blame on them and make a "buyer be wear" statement. Educate yourself!!!!

Geesh!!! EXCUUUUSE Mmeeeeee! (Doing my Steve Martin impersonation.) I buy items on sale from Neiman's and Nordies all the time. I don't return often, but I am ALWAYS refunded the price I paid, always. In fact Neiman's only starts to reduce refunds after 120 days have passed. IDK why someone would return after 120 days, but they do. Only then they deduct a percentage of original cost. I am reading this from their return policy.

Now, if you do NOT have a receipt you are given sale price, unless they have put your sale receipt on the tag in form of a track able SKU. Most people use a card of some form for purchase. A receipt from card company is acceptable.

I am confused. The store offered you a partial store credit for a bag which, according to their policy, they did not even have to let you return in the first place since it was outside their stated return time and you are complaining?

I love Kate Spade's products. I don't like their policies. They also have a no return or exchange policy on anything that is discounted more than 50%. It's just shady.

It's not shady at all. Kate Spade has excellent customer service and they bend over backward for their customers. They state "clearly" on their webstite that they don't accept returns on merchandise that is discounted 50% or more - IT'S CALLED "final sale" in the business and every retailer does this. In addition it's common practice in the business to refund only the "current price" if it's "past" the 30 day return policy. Stop comparing QVC policies to the REAL world. I'm a huge Kate Spade customer and their merchandise is exceptional with customer service one of the finest out there!!!!

In my opinion, it is shady. You are incorrect, every retailer does NOT do this. If the company is confident in their products, then they would offer a 100% Guarantee- no matter if it was on sale or not. But Kate Spade does not. Reminds me of the cheap Forever 21 policies, no refunds at all. Or a slimy car salesman who offers you a "good" car for really cheap and says no refunds, final sale.

If you have your original receipt I can't believe they wouldn't give you full store credit! I would speak to a manager, and if they still won't resolve this issue, then I would take it to the Better Business Bureau. I've NEVER heard of a store that wouldn't give the full credit if you had your original receipt and your item was never used.

I bought DD some jewelry there last year. Don't think I will this year!

When it's past the 30 Day Return Policy and you want to return the merchandise, if it's on sale - you will get only the sale price refunded. What in the world do you mean that you have never heard of this? This is common in retail and all the better stores and brand do this. As a matter of fact I purchased something at Talbots (which is a mid level store) and they have the same exact policy. How is it possible you don't know this?

All I can do is speak from my own experience. If something brand new needs to be returned, I try to do so as soon as possible. But if I have gone beyond the 30 days for some reason (usually with something I bought one of my teenagers that they would never wear), even if the item has been marked down, if I have the ORIGINAL receipt, they have always offered me full store credit, and in some cases, a full refund to my credit card - the price I originally paid.

I suppose I don't shop at the same stores you do and THAT is how it's possible I don't know that!

I agree with you, if they made the decision to issue a refund and you have the original receipt, the full amount should be refunded. It is not common practice in my experience to only refund the sale price except when you don't have a receipt. Everyone can get in a huff about knowing the return policies all they want, but I look at it like this. the bottom line is there are too many places to shop without having to read the fine print before purchasing something and if they want to be a.n.a.l about returns, they can keep it. Not saying I'm entitled to special treatment but if I don't realize a limited return period and I get stuck with it, I'm not going back. Just my 2 cents. I don't have the time and energy for all that. I'll take my money down the highway. Too many retailers are happy to oblige.

I love Kate Spade purses. I have never encountered "shady" services in my 15 year experience with the stores and online sales. They are very clear about their return and no return policies on sample sales that are discounted 50% or more. Their recepts are also very clear in store sales. You might call the other number provided and ask for a Supervisor. I am so sorry that you had this experience. I love their handbags and I have kept 99% of what I have purchased. On the sample sales that are final sales, if I do not like the handbag, I keep it or donate it.

I purchased a handbag at the Kate Spade store in Indianapolis on Oct. 28. I tried to return the (unused) handbag on Dec. 2 but was told that it was past the 30-day return policy. I asked if I could exchange it or get a store credit and was told that the handbag was now 30% off and that is all the credit I would get - even though I had a receipt proving that I had paid a higher price. To enforce a 30-day return policy is one thing but to NOT give credit for the amount paid is unethical in my view. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Thanks for the info. I live right outside of Indianapolis, and I"ve been in that store multiple times. I didn't know about the return policy as I don't buy much from Kate Spade due to the cost. I have a few pieces, but I didn't try to return. That's a bummer.
