Where I live (Tampa Bay Area), temps will be 90 through October. Then 80s. Too hot for my denim jacket. In December and January we will get a few days of "winter," temps in 60s. That's when I excitedly bust out my jean jacket, long sleeved shirts, full length pants and loafers. Such a fleeting season for Floridians. I enjoy those times and those clothes. But not enough to move back to five month 🥶 winters, haha

@smoochy

Sounds a lot like winters in New Orleans lol, although we do get our occasional freezes, which I think you don't get.  Your tropical foliage doesn't take a beating like ours sometimes does.

My DIL was born and raised in St. Pete, but she and my son now live in Chicago and they love it.  No midwestern winters for me, thank you very much.

I should have mentioned that indeed we have had a hard freeze or two overnight. Last winter we lost some outdoor plantings because we didn't cover them well enough. The citrus farmers take at least one bad hit every winter. That kind of cold dissipates by late morning (denim jacket weather); however by looking at native Floridians you would think it's January in Chicago. Haha. I have in fact been to Chicago in January. We lived 2 1/2 hours from there in Michigan. The wind off the Lake was brutal, bone freezing cold.
I've never visited your famous city, would like to some day. Have been to St Pete many times. What a cool place to be from 🥰

It looks as if there are two camps for jean jackets, those who do and those who don't. I seem to waiver back and forth.

For years I had a couple jean jackets--one white and the  others blue. I rarely to never wore them and donated them all. Suddenly I felt I needed a jean jacket and of course went out and bought yet another one. Have I ever worn it? No.

Unless a jean jacket is meticulously tailored to fit, I don't find them more youthful than a cardigan or blazer.  I especially sometimes dislike the cuffs. I think it can look sloppy to turn them back once and unnatural when rolled up twice.

I have a closet full ( more than 10) preowned Chicos denim jackets; mostly acquired from EBay. My  favorite, which I bought new, was 16 years old when it bit the dust. I now own 3 gently used clones of the same jacket ( EBay for 20% of what I paid). I still get many compliments on this jacket from many people ( including teens and men).

Re: SawRe: Jean Jackets...why?

I have three denim jackets.

One I purchased new, but not very expensive. It is white and kind of stiff, but I will soon wash it and even if it does not soften very much, I will still wear it because some times I need a white jacket.

The other two, I purchased in a thrift store, a few years ago. Each was under $ 10.00. I really like wearing them. Both are very soft and comfortable. One is waist length and the other is to the hip. There is a classic look and feel to the old ones that I like. They remind me of the classic camel hair coat and other clothes that I like from the past. Some things never go out of style for me.

I've always liked a jean jacket.  I remember in high school wanting one for a long time.  Generally the "crowd" that wore them were the smokers and "smoked other stuff" kind of people and I didn't want to be considered that and it was just kind of a symbol of that at the time.  But, I really wanted one and got it anway.  Wore it all the time.  I remember a friend of mine, supposed to be a good friend, making fun of me.  But I didn't care.  Loved my denim jacket, it was a Lee's or Levi.  Always replaced it when it wore down because I'd have it on all the time.  Many years later, my friend (now husband) went to Paris for business.  Got my a Paris Hard Rock Cafe denim jacket.  Ii proceeded to get the Hard Rock Cafe pins and put them all oer.  Yep, the stylish thing to do then.  That was 25 years ago and I still have it.

Have a Joan Rivers jean jacket. Love it. It does have that short waistline that I dislike.

Wear it a lot.

I love the look of them and where I live they are simply part of the culture.  Farmers and ranchers have worn them all my life.  Matter of fact, that was all the coat old cowboys ever wore. Maybe a lined one in winter.

Go feed the cows in the snow?  A jean jacket or dark gray coveralls.

@Sooner  I'm not a fan, but I'm sure if I lived where you live, I would be wearing them!  I love the West and the Western culture.

I've never been a fan of jean jackets, at least not on me.  I never felt comfortable in them, and I didn't think they flattered my figure.  I prefer my cardigans, long and short, soft and roomy.
