The 'show' as opposed to the actual 'performance' has always been a part of the entertainment industry but the extent to which it's increasingly become virtually all spectacle over substance is actually sort of a shame. It appears real talent is now only marginally or occasionally rewarded.

Her figure is eye catching as well as her costumes.  That is the goal.  These are her work clothes.  Lady Gaga has gone outside the box as well. JLo's outfit  is no more skimpier than some of the gymnasts and skaters I I have seen on sports tv.  I may not be in her targeted demographic for ticket sales, but I must say, wowza!!

Unitard or not, I have yet to see a gymnast or a skater dressed like this, with all the cut outs front and back, high and low and sideways.

At what age is a bikini not appropriate?  

I will be 75 in a few days.  I wear  3 piece rashguard tankinis.  I only wear the top when I get "chilly" at pool side.  Not a bikini yet I'm still showing off my puffed belly.  Only my arms are toned from lifting weights.  Sill working on that J-Lo six pack.

JLo does have a thick nude body stocking underneath. You can see it slightly gathered at waist in one of the pics.   Like a body glove, then the topper. She does have a lot of energy, agility and a great figure.  I don't care for her music, or follow her. But she is beautiful

I'm not shocked at what she is wearing. It's pretty much the norm these days for some performers. That being said I don't like her outfits. They definitely show off her amazing body, but I don't think they're attractive stage costumes. 

As @Caaareful Shopper posted performers have been pushing the fashion envelope for a long time. Every generation has had clothing that others labeled as too skimpy, too revealing, or too provocative. I remember the outrage with the bikinis on TV's Laugh-In and Cher's costumes, among others. 

I agree with @stevieb. It's a bit sad that spectacle sometimes overshadows talent these days. If you have talent you shouldn't need too much other stuff, but I think the fans of these performers expect a grand production. 
I prefer hearing a pure live voice with beautiful instrumentation. I think singers who can do that well have a very special gift. 

Just my thoughts and opinions.

She seems to wear less and less all the time.  It's like she is trying so hard to keep up with the younger performing women.  I am not disputing that she has a great body -- that has nothing to do with it.  I guess for me the description is what the younger people say - she is "thirsty" for attention.   She and Beyonce are the same.  It's tiresome.

I am looking forward to seeing her star in Kiss of the Spider Woman, a musical extravaganza, which is opening in theaters this Fall. It looks terrific and I'm not a big musical person.
She is still relevant, obviously. Still making music, acting and dancing. Living her best life, if you ask me. While we sit on the same sofa cushion day after day, posting about her and Meghan Markle and Beyonce, they are actually actually out living their lives.
