Ditto .... I agree.
OP, leave white and ivory to the bride. It's her big day and I'm sure you certainly can find something in another color, can't you?

I really like both the white and black version of this pretty dress! But I still have a problem with women wearing black to a wedding. Even though its no longer taboo, I find it rather depressing to wear black to a joyful occasion as a wedding. OP just wear what you want. You certainly don't need anyone on this boards permission. Go and have a blast!

No, I would not wear that dress to a wedding. Looks too much like a informal wedding dress.

@stevieb wrote:Wear it if you like it. It looks completely appropriate to me. This archaic schlock about not competing with the bride is just ridiculous. She'll be the one standing with the groom and I think everyone gets that.
It's not "archaic schlock" .... it's called etiquette. Look it up; you'll learn something.

You have your opinion and I have mine... so your effort to be condescending (or was it just plain rude...) more or less falls on deaf ears... You see, I don't need to 'look it up'... I'm well aware of etiquette but simply decide for myself what makes sense and what doesn't... Oddly, I've never been called out for not wearing appropriate attire...
Some folks, as is their right, seem to spend an inordinate amount of time pondering weddings and wedding attire. I simply don't. This whole notion of 'upstaging' the bride is ludicrous. Unless the event is an informal one, the bride is so steeped in "special" that it would be hard to do... Personally, I hardly think anyone is going to be confused as to who is the bride between a member of the audience attired in a knee length dress in ivory with lace and the woman standing at the alter in a gown, carrying a bouquet and likely wearing a veil or some other form of head-dress... Each to their own... If I wanted to wear it, then I'd wear it...

What can I say? That good manners are never out of style and any invited guest should dress appropriately.
If you have that much contempt for the bride as to not care about her feelings on her big day, just stay home. You shouldn't be there.
