You may not know who Hubert de Givenchy is but you most certainly have seen his couture clothes if have watched Audrey Hepburn films. He passed away this past weekend at 91 years of age. There are some lovely articles about him online including this one  from the Business of Fashion website:

@TY  Of course, everyone who knows anything about fashion knows who he is.  His designs are timeless and, like Coco Chanel, his legacy will live on for many decades.

I was sad to see this news today.  He was one of the last great French post-war couturiers, if not the last one.  He created such beautiful designs for many famous women especially Audrey Hepburn who wore his clothes with such grace and style.  I was sad to read that his contract with Givenchy was not renewed in 1995 after the house was sold to a large conglomerate.  It is kind to say he retired though I'm sure that he could have designed many more beautiful fashions if he had stayed on.  RIP Monsieur Givenchy.

I just watched Charade, for the umpteenth time. Just look at Audrey Hepburn’s wardrobe in that film. Givenchy’s designs are timeless. A few years ago I bought a coat at Talbot’s which was quite similar to a coat that Audrey Hepburn wore in Charade 50 years earlier. I treasure that purchase.

Ah! So much for those "elegant" designs we see on the Q!

Charade was the first movie that DH and I saw together after we were married. Audrey dressed so stylish. Guess it helped having a great designer like Givenchy. RIP.

Such a loss.

I have always loved Givenchy's designs, started with my love affair with Audrey's clothing in "Charade."  They were a lightning bolt in the world of fashion, so diferent, new and exciting, flattering, still perfect to wear today.

Just saw that movie last month, wonderful.
