When I was younger and received a compliment I tended to say something like "I've had this for ages." At this point in life I've come to realize that response was kind of rude.  People are giving you a compliment and you should accept it with a thank you.  It makes you feel good and makes person complimenting feel good as well.  I wore uniforms all through catholic school so never got compliments so guess I when I stepped out with my own style I was unprepared for compliments.
