I am fifty eight and I wear them and I love the look and get compliments all the time. I don't think there is an age limit for them as long as you feel good in what you are wearing!!

I personally think a 50 yr old or older should not dress like her daughters, I don't care what good shape she is in! I would be embarrassed if my mother dressed like that as a teenager or in my 20's!

But you're assuming they're in their teens or twenties! And if our daughters are 40 or 45? Should I be wearing a housedress then, now? Long over narrow with a riding boot is a classic look that spans the ages, in my opinion!

I don't feel we should apply age to fashion. With clothing it should boil down to what's flattering on you as opposed to what age bracket one feels the style belongs to. I've been around for six decades and would not be caught dead in a long tunic or cardigan. On the other hand I can rock leggings very well as my body is still in shape where I can wear mine with bomber jackets. However, I just am one of those who feel regardless of how tight one's figure is, the booty should be covered a bit. That doesn't mean the top has to fall well below the hips. For me a top which falls somewhere below the waistline and above the hips is my preferred look with leggings.

I do want to add that regardless of how I feel the long tunics and cardigans don't flatter me, there are some women who look amazing in those tops. In that case those ladies should definitely go with long and looking good.

I don't feel riding boots warrant any comment because not only do they transcend age, but men, who really ride horses, wear riding boots.

How old is too old for leggings, riding boots and a long tunic top, or long cardigan? I love this look and do wear it frequently, however lately I feel that I look silly and I'm not sure it's appropriate for me at age 55.

Actually it had nothing to do with age. It does though have everything to do with shape/size of the person

Wear them. When you see women 50 plus trying to dress like they are 18 it all pretty much goes. Now someone doing that is what I would call silly.

I too think it depends on your body and attitude and not your age.

Just today I saw a lovely lady who had to be in her late 60's or early 70's that was wearing the outfit you described. A great embellished tunic (think it was a Tory Burch) and great pair of leggings and the cutest riding boots. They were definitely Tory Burch and had beautiful hardware on them that really made them look great. This woman was in good shape and she just looked so pulled together and current without looking like she was trying to look like a 30 or 40 yr old.

I also have a neighbor who is 73 yrs old. She is divorced and is quite active in the community. She doesn't work but plays tennis 6 days a week for a good 2-3 hours a day. She has a great body and really takes care of herself nutrition wise, skin care wise and clothing wise. Her hair always looks great and her makeup is very natural and not to heavy and all. She wears leggings often in the way that is similar with what you are wanting to. I think she looks great. She always has on some beautiful jewelry and just looks so put together without going overboard.

IF you feel like you are in shape then I would totally go for it! Enjoy yourself!!

Instead of leggings why not try black skinny pants or skinny jeans in a dark color? That would give you a similar look but with a more substantial pant fabric.

I agree, it's a matter of your current body shape. Wear the leggings, tunic and riding boots and look in the mirror. If you like the way you look, then you have your answer. My sister ( she's in her sixties) and myself wear leggings, jeggings and riding boots all fall and winter, for casual dressing and we love the look. Don't let anyone ever tell you you're too old for anything, do what you want and have fun.

Have a 3-way mirror in your house, and look at your rear view. That will tell you if it's OK or not. Has nothing to do with age.
