Gap is partnering with thredUP to reduce our impact on the planet by extending the life of clothing. thredUP is the most convenient way to clean out your closet (and do good for the earth!). Order a Gap x thredUP Clean Out Kit and turn your gently used clothes into Gap shopping credit.

The Future of Fashion is Circular

Together with our partners, thredUP is committed to returning as many items as possible back into the circular economy and giving them a second life. Returning just one clothing item back into the circular economy extends its life by an average of 2.2 years and reduces its carbon, waste, and water footprint by 82%.

Thanks, that answers my questions.  I should have read the entire thread before I asked the question.

What a crock.  Turn in the "gently used clothing" you might otherwise have happily and gratefully kept wearing, and buy new clothes with the credits their clever PR and marketing departments will be pleased to give you in exchange.  All under the guise of being kind to "the planet."   Sheeeeesh.

I think they are thinking kids' clothing, which they quickly outgrow, as well as when people change sizes from rapid weight gain/loss.  Rather than selling them through a retail site like Poshmark, they are trying to keep business with their brand loyal customers.  I see nothing wrong with this.

I see nothing "wrong" with being out to make a buck either.  But let's be honest that's all they're doing.  If they'd meant to focus their campaign on clothing for kids and rapid weight gainers/losers, their savvy copy writers would've done so.  They didn't.  They're out for vain virtue-signalers with money to burn, pure and simple.

Thanks for posting @lolakimono .  It's a great cause.  I happen to really like Gap clothing by my 2 little grandkids (boys).

@lolakimono

i think it is a great service.

it is really no different than taking your clothing to a consignment shop......clothing you dont need, use, or want anymore for WHATEVER reason.

it allows you to clean out your closet and possibly refresh items as needed.
