I read that one of her daughters publicly stated that if a man marries someone that much younger no one bats an eye so her mother was being unfairly attacked. True. But she is leaving out the facts that he was a minor and she was his teacher when it all started.

Exactly.  That's the whole point.  Some people have a problem with the age difference, and some don't.  The age difference is not the issue in this instance, though..  What she did was wrong, plain and simple.  Far fewer people would be excusing it if the teacher had been male and the student female.  It's wrong either way!
