I have three of Susan Graver's faux leather coats from a few years back.  Now all of a sudden the faux leather is peeling off of all the coats.

It was very embarassing to be shopping and notice the sleeves on one coat was falling off in little squares.

Does anyone know why this would happen?  Does faux leather just last so long and then peel?

Very disappointed in this product.  I do realize I have had my coats for quite awhile, and took excellent care of them, and now this.

Once the peeling starts it does not stop.  I will have to throw all the coats in the garbage.

Anyone have any idea of why this happenedf now?

Thank you

@zippety  Sorry this is happening to you.  I don’t think faux anything lasts as long as the real thing....The faux leather could wear out in areas where the arms bend repeatedly, on shoulders where bag hangs, underarms from constant rubbing, etc.

I’d rather have 1 real leather coat or bag for a lifetime than several faux leather ones.

Who knows what it's made out of ...or from.  Petroleum?  Plastic?

Whatever it is - the faux leather is probably glued to the material that makes the rest of the coat.  Perhaps cold temps makes the faux crack or pull away from the material.  I'm not surprised.

Re: FAUX LEATHER COATS

Faux leathers vary widely in quality and cost.  Everything from looking like plastic to better than a lot of leather.  The good news is that you got a few years of use out of the jacket.

I found lots of info Googling 'Faux leather peeling', 'how to fix peeling faux leather', etc.

I had a gorgeous designer black "leather" raincoat for several years. Went to put it on once and noticed the material had begun to disintegrate. I guess that's what happens to the faux leathers. I've been buying some recently and have made up my mind that they will not last as long as my real leather things. I guess you do get what you paid for.

@zippety

I happened to me with one from SG (the infamous road kill coat), a silver/gray one from Dennis Basso, and one that had a leopard print from Bob Mackie.

I bought the DB and BM about the same time and they self-destructed about the same time.

With SG ... she said they improved the faux leather and I believed her.  A year or so later it also self-destructed.

I had 2 SG faux jackets for about 10 years, although I barely wore them in the last 5 or so.  They both were peeling badly this year, & out they went.  They were very nice & always got compliments.  I think that's all the life you can expect out of inexpensive  fakes.

I have a Susan Graver faux leather blazer from about 10 years ago. Now we live in Florida it rarely is worn but this thread made me go look at it and - sure enough - into the trash it went. Not a great loss since it is rarely used.

@zippety,I'd still call customer service 1-800-367-9444 and tell them.  I've had complete refunds way after the fact.
